JOB GOAL: Danbury Public Schools is seeking a Special Services Facilitator to support the effective delivery of special education services and ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines, as well as district policies. This role is essential in guiding the implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs), coordinating services across school teams, and fostering inclusive learning environments that support all students. The Special Services Facilitator will work collaboratively with special education and general education staff, families, and support personnel to ensure students with disabilities are provided with appropriate services, accommodations, and instruction aligned with their IEPs.
This includes supporting both pull-out and push-in instructional models and promoting best practices in special education.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Schedule IEP meetings and ensure all required team members are invited in a timely manner
- Complete IEP documents in compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as district policies
- Chair referral, initial, annual review, special review, and transition Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings
- Complete additional documentation as requested by the Director of Special Student Services or building administrators
- Act as a liaison between parents, students, staff, and the district to promote effective communication and build positive relationships
- Ensure all mandated timelines for IEPs, evaluations, and reporting are met
- Monitor and oversee implementation of IEP accommodations and modifications, ensuring all relevant staff are informed and compliant
- Supervise site-based special education programs, identify concerns, and report them to the building administrator and/or Director of Special Services
- Ensure that progress reports are completed by school staff and submitted to the Special Student Services Office according to district deadlines; communicate any issues to site administration
- Serve as a resource to staff regarding special education procedures, regulations, and best practices
- Ensure all IEPs and evaluations are current and in full compliance with legal requirements
- Provide peer coaching and mentoring for new special education teachers
- Train and support para educators to meet student needs and follow IEP requirements
- Collaborate with school-based teams to address academic and behavioral concerns of students
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records
- Attend facilitator meetings, workshops, and professional development sessions to remain current with special education regulations and district policies
- Conduct informational meetings for site-based special education staff under the direction of school and district administration
- Review and assign staff caseloads as appropriate and as directed by administration
- Be available to students and parents for education-related concerns outside of regular school hours, as needed
- Strive to maintain and enhance professional competence
- Attend staff meetings and participate on school or district committees as appropriate
- Support families by providing resources that promote the health, well-being, and educational progress of their child
- Collaborate with outside professionals and agencies (e.g., physical therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, counselors, DCF) involved in student services
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of special education processes, including assessment methods, IEP development, and data interpretation
- Ability to support a wide range of diverse learners, including students with disabilities and English language learners
