Lead Preschool Teacher

OverviewThe Lead Preschool Teacher creates a nurturing, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages 3–5. This role supports the whole child—socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively—while fostering strong relationships with families and colleagues. The Lead Teacher models professionalism, reflective practice, and ethical conduct consistent with NAEYC standards.
Key Responsibilities5)
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, play-based learning experiences that promote exploration, problem solving, and creativity.
- Use observation and assessment to guide instruction and support individual learning goals.
- Integrate early literacy, math, science, social-emotional learning, and the arts into daily routines.
- Create a classroom environment that reflects children’s cultures, interests, and developmental needs.

- Establish warm, responsive, and respectful relationships with children.
- Support children’s emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and prosocial behavior through positive guidance.
- Foster a sense of belonging and community within the classroom.

- Communicate regularly with families through daily updates, conferences, and collaborative conversations.
- Partner with families to understand each child’s strengths, needs, and cultural background.
- Participate in school events, family engagement activities, and community partnerships.

- Conduct ongoing observations and maintain accurate documentation of children’s progress and maintain individual children's portfolios.
- Use assessment data to individualize instruction and inform curriculum planning.
- Prepare developmental reports and lead parent conferences.

- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.
- Follow all licensing regulations, health guidelines, and program policies.
- Supervise children at all times and ensure appropriate ratios.
- Implement emergency procedures and support children’s well-being.
- Model ethical conduct, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Mentor assistant teachers, floaters, and support staff.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and reflective practice.
- Collaborate with colleagues to maintain a positive, team-oriented environment.
- Complete educational course (20 hours a year) and required certification (CPR, First Aid, Epi Pen and Medication).
- Complete required reports accurately and on time.
- Adhere to center’s regulations and policies.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (preferred).
- State-required teaching credentials or certifications.
- Knowledge of NAEYC standards, DAP (Developmentally Appropriate Practice), and early learning frameworks.
- At least 2 years experience working with preschool-aged children in a licensed early childhood setting.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching.
