Chemical Engineer
We are seeking a collaborative, technically proficient, and safety‑minded petroleum/refinery engineer to design, optimize, and troubleshoot refinery processes and units that enable safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible production of fuels, feed stocks, and refined products. The successful candidate will work closely with operations, process engineering, maintenance, reliability, environmental, and HS&E teams to translate process models and lab/pilot findings into robust, operable, and economically sound refinery workflows.
This role requires strong chemical and petroleum engineering fundamentals, hands‑on experience with refinery unit operations and process technologies, and a pragmatic approach to process optimization, debottlenecking, and technology implementation.
- Design, evaluate, and optimize refinery unit operations and integrated process schemes (e.g., crude preheat, distillation, hydrotreating, catalytic cracking, reforming, alkylation, hydrocracking, cokers, utilities) to meet safety, yield, product quality, and throughput objectives.
- Develop and validate process simulations, mass/energy balances, heat integration studies, and process flow diagrams to support capital projects, debottlenecking, and operational improvements.
- Plan and execute root cause investigations and technical troubleshooting for process upsets, performance deviations, and equipment reliability issues; recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Lead or support process hazard analyses (PHA), hazard and operability studies (HAZOP), layer of protection analyses (LOPA), and other risk assessments in partnership with HS&E and operations.
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation including PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, operating procedures, start‑up/shutdown plans, and technical reports to support safe and compliant operations.
- Collaborate with maintenance and reliability teams to define equipment care strategies, inspection and turnaround scopes, root cause investigations, and life‑cycle cost optimization.
- Support process control and optimization efforts by defining control strategies, tuning dynamic models, and partnering with instrumentation and control engineers to improve stability and yield.
- Engage with vendors, licensors, and contractors to evaluate technology options, review vendor deliverables, and ensure engineered solutions meet performance and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to project execution including scope development, cost estimating, schedule management, construction support, commissioning, and start‑up activities for capital and retrofit projects.
- Mentor and collaborate with operations personnel, engineers, and contractors to transfer technical knowledge, promote best practices, and drive continuous improvement and energy efficiency initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related engineering discipline; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
- 3+ years of hands‑on experience in refinery process engineering, operations support, or plant projects within petroleum refining, petrochemical, or related hydrocarbon processing industries.
- Practical experience with refinery unit operations (distillation, hydrotreating, catalytic processes, thermal units, treating and separation systems), heat and material balances, and process simulation tools (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, Petro‑SIM).
- Demonstrated ability to perform process performance evaluations, debottlenecking studies, energy integration, and basic economic assessments to support project recommendations.
- Working knowledge of process safety and regulatory requirements relevant to refining operations, including hazardous materials handling, emissions controls, and permit/compliance frameworks.
- Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills across process, mechanical, and control domains; ability to lead investigations and implement practical solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to produce clear technical documentation and present findings to…
