Phlebotomist Group Lead

Location:

San Jose, CA – Monday‑Friday 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Pay range: $31.10 – $37.10 / hour. Salary offers are based on relevant skills, training, experience, education, certifications, and market factors. Eligible candidates may receive an annual performance bonus.

Responsibilities
  • Collect specimens according to established procedures, including drug screens, biometric screening, and insurance exams.
  • Administer oral solutions according to training.
  • Research test/client information and confirm all written and electronic orders using laboratory technology systems.
  • Complete data entry for patient registration, test orders, and standing orders accurately.
  • Enter billing information and collect payments, safeguarding credit card data.
  • Process specimens: labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required.
  • Perform clerical duties such as inventory, phone answering, and data entry when assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and safety manuals.
  • Verify patient demographics and consent at point of care.
  • Compile and submit monthly statistics and data.
  • Maintain phlebotomy logs, temperature logs, and maintenance logs.
  • Complete required training courses and maintain up‑to‑date certification.
  • Travel to Territory Manager meetings when required.
  • Participate in special projects and teams.
  • Distribute technical information and communicate with the work group.
  • Perform point‑of‑care testing and complete competency evaluations as per SOP.
  • Mentor and support new employees during onboarding.
  • Assist with inventory counts and schedule preparation.
  • Resolve client issues and document critical problems.
  • Ensure safety precautions with appropriate PPE.
  • Assist supervisors with SOP implementation and communication.
  • Maintain facility cleanliness and report needed repairs.
  • Lead one or more PSRs on site if required.
  • Support patient inquiries from website or managed care.
  • Provide input on performance evaluations of PSRs.
Qualifications Required Work Experience
  • Seven years phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
  • Keyboard/data entry experience.
  • Flexible and available for weekends, holidays, on‑call, and overtime.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (clean driving record).
  • Travel flexibility to cover multiple locations with minimal notice.
Preferred Work Experience
  • Medical assistant or paramedic training.
  • Minimum five years in a PSC or IOP environment.
  • Customer service experience in a retail or service setting.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Lifting light to moderately heavy objects (1–40 lb); larger weights require assistance.
  • Sit or stand for long periods; require long‑hour eye and hand coordination.
  • Perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand throughout the day.
  • Travel required.
  • Extensive use of phone and PC.
  • Fine dexterity and steadiness.
  • Walking, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, and talking.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of Quest Diagnostics policies, dress code, health & safety, and guiding principles.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
Skills
  • Provide quality, error‑free work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent phlebotomy skills, including pediatric and geriatric.
  • Superior customer focus and communication skills.
