Primary Objective

This position assists supervisors and management in running a shift with focus on safety, quality, production, and efficiency.

Major Functions and Scope
  • Assist in coordinating resources across shifts to ensure smooth and efficient manufacturing operation while promoting a team environment.
  • Continuously improve production methods while adhering to all safety procedures.
  • Assist the supervisor with assigning work to meet production requirements in an efficient and cost‑effective manner; ensure adherence to established priorities for production workflow.
  • Resolve operational, processing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and production downtime.
  • Provide consistent and constructive feedback to employees; train, develop or identify employee training and resource needs, establish priorities, monitor the quality and quantity of work performed by the department and its individuals; ensure quality requirements and procedures for the department and plant are communicated, understood and practiced.
  • Work with the safety committee by attending safety meetings, working on safety projects, completing safety surveys, performing safety training and ensuring a safe work environment and appropriate employee behavior.
  • Fill in for the shift supervisor in the event of absences, vacation, etc.
  • Perform other duties as required by the shift supervisor/management team.
Knowledge, Experience, Certifications
  • Must have high school education or equivalent.
  • One‑year prior experience in a lead capacity.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Read and write in Standard English.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact with senior management and internal customers.
  • Must have computer knowledge, Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
  • Must be able to walk long distances and stand for long periods of time; bending, crouching and stooping may be required.
  • May be required to work a flexible schedule to include evening and night shifts, weekends and holidays.
Competencies
  • Proficient using a PC and other department‑specific databases, systems and other hardware and software.
  • Proficient using all assigned department machinery and other related equipment; possess knowledge and skills to perform troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and resolve other basic operating problems. Proven mechanical ability.
  • Knowledge of Mohawk’s organizational and functional operating structure, products, administrative procedures and policies.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of HR policies, practices and procedures as they relate to employee relations, hiring, terminations, benefits and compensation plans and administration guidelines.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills in order to effectively interact with senior management and internal customers; ability to handle antagonistic situations with appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to reduce tension or conflict and maintain professionalism in accordance with corporate standards.
  • Ability and willingness to challenge established practices and draw relevant conclusions; ability to persuade, market and sell new ideas; ability to work in a high‑pressure environment and exercise good judgment to resolve problems in the absence of formalized guidelines and procedures.
  • Excellent human resource management skills to effectively lead and direct a diverse work group; achieve results through team efforts and motivate, persuade and direct the activities of others.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, reach, bend and twist without restrictions.
  • Able to push buggies full of yarn or tubes.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Constantly bend, crouch and stoop throughout the shift.
  • Work in an environment that is noisy, non‑climate‑controlled facilities, and high‑traffic production floor.
