The Elementary/Middle/High School Teacher serves as a core member of the instructional team and reports directly to the Superintendent/Principal. This position is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing standards-aligned instruction that promotes academic excellence, social-emotional development, and character education for all students. The Elementary/Middle/High School Teacher contributes to the mission and vision of Northwest Georgia Charter Academy by cultivating a nurturing, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where every child is valued, challenged, and supported to reach their fullest potential.
The teacher implements high-quality instruction aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence, the school’s educational model, and applicable state and federal requirements. The role requires strong collaboration with colleagues, active participation in professional learning, and consistent engagement with families and the community to ensure that all students thrive academically and personally.
ESSENTIAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructional Planning and Delivery
- Develop and implement engaging, standards-based lesson plans aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) and school mission.
- Incorporate evidence-based instructional practices and strategies that promote critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving.
- Design differentiated learning experiences that meet the needs of diverse learners, including English Learners, students with disabilities, and gifted students.
- Integrate technology and hands-on learning opportunities to enhance instruction and engagement.
- Use formative and summative assessment data to guide lesson planning and individualized support.
- Prepare materials, resources, and learning environments that support effective teaching and learning.
Classroom Environment and Culture
- Establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Implement school wide behavior systems, restorative practices, and proactive classroom management strategies.
- Foster a classroom culture of respect, responsibility, curiosity, and perseverance.
- Model positive behavior, clear communication, and high expectations for all students.
- Promote student ownership of learning and accountability for academic and personal growth.
Assessment and Data-Driven Instruction
- Administer and interpret a variety of assessments (diagnostic, formative, benchmark, and summative) to monitor progress and inform instruction.
- Conduct progress monitoring in reading, math, and other core areas as required by the school or state.
- Analyze individual and class data to identify strengths, needs, and trends to inform instructional decisions.
- Maintain accurate records of grades, assessments, attendance, and student information in compliance with school and state guidelines.
- Participate in data team meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement process.
Professional Collaboration and Growth
- Collaborate with colleagues in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to plan, assess, and refine instruction.
- Actively engage in professional development aligned with the school’s improvement plan, goals, and charter performance targets.
- Participate in grade-level and cross-grade collaboration to promote vertical alignment and continuity of learning.
- Reflect on professional practice, seek feedback, and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
- Support and mentor paraprofessionals, volunteers, and student teachers as applicable.
Family and Community Engagement
- Establish and maintain effective communication with parents and guardians through conferences, newsletters, and digital platforms.
- Share student progress, celebrate achievements, and collaborate with families to address learning challenges.
- Participate in school events, family engagement nights, and community outreach activities.
- Represent the school positively and professionally in all interactions with families and the community.
