Location:
Augusta, GA. Regular, Full-Time. Job . The Medical College of Georgia's Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Augusta University seeks a full-time, non-tenure track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The selected candidate will be a board certified/board eligible, fellowship-trained Orthopaedic trauma surgeon to join a busy, established faculty practice in Augusta, Georgia.
The candidate should have a major interest in education, research, and a personal career development plan to be pursued vigorously after appointment. The ideal candidate will be committed to cultivating an academic surgical practice with involvement in resident teaching and clinical and/or basic science research. The department values engagement with students, faculty, and staff of all backgrounds to deliver quality, compassionate patient care, advance the field through research, and train the next generation of health experts.
Responsibilities- Responsible for the standard of practice for the patient population at a Level I Trauma Center.
- Maintain a private office and exercise clinical decision making during times of service.
- Advise and consult in the establishment of operational policies of the practice, including: purchasing and capital allocations; managed care plan participation; budget and practice expenses;
Medicare/Medicaid participation; billing and collection of professional fees; personnel management and related policies; risk management and quality assurance; and coding compliance. - Share responsibility for after-hours call coverage for patients of the practice, in addition to office appointments.
- Participate in community service activities, including speaking engagements, writing, and special clinical programs as reasonably requested.
- Collaborate with AU Health System Trauma Surgery Program Leadership to improve standards of care and meet ACS guidelines.
- Ensure risk management, coding compliance and quality assurance activities within the practice.
- Maintain a constant state of alertness and safety in all duties.
- Patient Care – 90%;
Teaching – 10%.
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school; completion of an accredited Orthopaedic Surgery Residency.
- Board certified/eligible and completion of a Trauma Surgery Fellowship; licensed to practice in Georgia with at least 5 years of experience.
- Academic rank qualifications:
Assistant Professor (early career), Associate Professor (mid career with at least five years at Assistant Professor or equivalent), Professor (senior level with at least five years at Associate Professor or equivalent). - Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions include: consistency with SACSCOC accreditation requirements; evidence of teaching ability; evidence of scholarly activity and ability in other duties; successful experience (with waivers possible for new entrants who meet other requirements); desirable personal qualities judged by interview, biographical data, and recommendations.
- Position is fiscal year-based and year-round. The intended work commitment is 1.0 FTE.
- Salary for Assistant/Associate/Professor levels is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements; subject to fund availability.
