Summary
The Donor Transporter role is responsible for providing non‑emergency ground transportation support for donors, recovery teams, and Southwest Transplant Alliance (STA) personnel. This position is responsible for the safe and timely transport of organs, donor specimens, medical equipment, and documentation. This requires strong communication and coordination with Logistics Coordinators and other stakeholders to ensure that all non‑emergency transport is executed with precision, professionalism, and adherence to established protocols.
WorkHours
12‑hour shifts to include weekdays and weekends with an equal share of all weekend and holiday shifts for the scheduled timeframe are required and additional hours as needed.
Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities Communication- Communicate effectively with internal staff and external partners to facilitate safe and efficient transportation.
- Respond to Logistics Coordinator inquiries within 15 minutes during scheduled work hours.
- Report to Logistics Coordinator for day‑to‑day operations.
- Report any vehicle discrepancies found on vehicle maintenance checklists, or while in operation, to Logistics Coordinator.
- Provide transportation‑related updates to Logistics Coordinator regarding any changes with locational data.
- Maintain professional relationships with transportation partners as they enter and exit the facility.
- Transport donor blood specimens, samples, and organs to and from hospitals, airports, and laboratories, ensuring timely delivery, proper handling, and accurate drop‑off locations.
- Plan and follow the most efficient travel routes for all assignments.
- Drive medical personnel, organs, and equipment to and from hospitals and airports throughout STA’s designated service area.
- Safely transport donors within the designated service area at locations such as hospitals, morgues, medical examiners, and funeral homes.
- Ensure STA vehicles are delivered for routine and scheduled maintenance as directed by management.
- Attend and arrive on time for all mandatory meetings, training, and workshops, with advance notice given.
- Occupy the Vestibule for all case related shipments to include donors, specimens, and equipment.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and safely operate all assigned vehicles.
- Complete and submit vehicle maintenance checklists, maintain vehicle cleanliness and refuel vehicles after each use.
- Submit transportation related receipts such as fueling, mechanical repairs, etc.
- Ensure all transported individuals and items are both verified and handled with care.
- Operate gurneys with care and in compliance with safety procedures.
- Accurately document any personal or valuable items found with the donor at the time of transport.
- Record and verify all cooling documentation in accordance with company and federal regulations.
- Conduct and document vehicle inspections prior to each assignment and submit findings to the Logistics Coordinator.
- Accurately complete and submit all administrative documentation including chain of custody, training content, emails, policy review, and other job‑related documentation, as needed.
- Record relevant transport information such as dates, times, and parcel verification for each assignment.
- Maintain all documentation in accordance with STA standards including pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections, chain of custody forms, and recovery questionnaire.
- Source and verify all donors, specimens, and equipment that enters and departs the Vestibule.
- Accurately document all inbound and outbound activity on electronic log.
- Assist in inventorying all equipment that is housed in the Vestibule.
- Assist in packaging specimens while ensuring appropriate labelling in accordance with company policy.
- Assist with the loading and unloading of supplies and equipment up to 70 pounds as needed.
- Assist in cleaning any biohazard spills that occur while performing duties.
Performs other job‑related duties as assigned that are consistent with the purpose of the role.
