Responsibilities- Primary responsibilities include splicing and testing fiber spans both ISP and OSP under the guidance of the field supervisor.
- Clean and inspect fiber, identify out‑of‑spec splice points, and re‑splice as required.
- Provide timely updates to the supervisor and relay any information.
- Run fiber jumpers between panels, keep accurate detailed notes, document fiber panels.
- Complete daily production reports and keep track of work hours.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Run the following fiber characterization tests:
- Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (OTDR)
- Chromatic Dispersion (CD)
- Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD)
- Optical Return & Power Loss (using OLTS)
- Identify out‑of‑spec splice points and jumpers
- Work with the customer's request for fixing and re‑splicing.
- Scope and clean fibers to ensure they are clean. Fiber Splicing
- Loose Tube
- Ribbon
- Both ISP and OSP
- Run fiber jumpers between panels
- Keep accurate detailed notes
- Document fiber panels
- Meet or exceed customer and internal quality levels
- Work with supervisor for scheduling and updates
- Self‑supervise all operations to ensure compliance with customer and industry specifications
- Field‑train and control/oversee work of other technicians when necessary
- Frequently work independently
- Willingness to travel locally, statewide, or regionally as required (95% traveling).
- At least 21 years of age and hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Must pass drug testing, background check, and adhere to all OSHA, state, city/municipality safety requirements.
- Experience with OTDR and fusion splice machine.
- Self‑motivated, high‑quality workmanship oriented, able to differentiate colors.
- Must be able to work nights and weekends if necessary.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs or more.
- Must be able to traverse and work in all areas of the job site (walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, stretching).
- Indoor and outdoor settings depending on job site.
- May be subject to varying noise levels.
- Exposure to dust, odors, gases, vapors, wet or slick surfaces.
- Wears PPE in accordance with company standards.
- May require working outdoors in all weather conditions and terrain.
- Must be willing to travel.
