Overview
Title: Asset Protection Detective.
Classification: Non-Exempt.
Reports to: Asset Protection District Manager.
Pay Range: $20.50-$23.00.
The compensation range provided is in compliance with state specific laws. Factors that may be used to determine your actual rate of pay include your specific skills, years of experience and other factors.
The responsibility of the Asset Protection Detective consists of apprehending suspects who commit shoplifting crimes and completing/submitting necessary reports in a timely manner. The AP Detective maintains constant communication with store management and uniformed security guards working together as a team to prevent losses. The AP Detective appears in court for restitution and prosecution of crimes committed against Vallarta Supermarkets.
General Duties and Responsibilities- Conduct external theft investigations including working undercover and apprehending suspects committing shoplifting crimes.
- Recover assets and make safe apprehensions.
- Ensure compliance with company Asset Protection Department apprehension guidelines.
- Complete incident reports and submit to corporate office.
- Must be able to write clear and concise crime reports that can later be used in court.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with suspects of shoplifting, law enforcement officers, and store management.
- Asset Protection Detectives must be able to testify in court concerning any criminal or civil case.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior loss prevention experience in theft apprehensions is preferred but not required.
- Must possess the ability to make good sound decisions under stressful situations.
- Must be able to maintain/manage confidential information.
- Must be able to stand/walk the sales floor for the entire scheduled shift.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays appropriate to retail business needs.
- Must be able to submit and successfully pass a criminal background check.
- Must be at least 18.
- Basic understanding of Spanish and English language; reading, writing, and speaking.
- May also have to do some light lifting of supplies and materials from time to time.
- Requires prolonged standing.
- This position requires travel between locations in the district based on business needs; multi-store location travel must be available.
- Typical physical demands or activities include up to 6 to 8 hours standing/walking. Occasional climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and at times using reasonable physical contact in order to execute an arrest within the company guidelines and law.
This is non-exempt level position; schedule would be based on business necessity and coordinated through the reporting Asset Protection District Manager. Available to a flexible schedule based on business needs. Open to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
