Overview

Business Development Manager – (Hardfacing & Welding Alloys)

The Business Development Manager role is an early-career outside sales position designed as a clear step above Account Manager. This role shifts the focus from primarily account maintenance to proactive growth…new business development, territory expansion, and strategic account penetration. The BDM owns growth within an assigned territory while leveraging Postle’s Technical Sales Managers (TSMs) for advanced technical support and application expertise.

This position is suited for a driven sales professional ready to move beyond reactive account management and take ownership of pipeline creation, opportunity development, and revenue growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own business development and sales growth within an assigned territory or market segment.
  • Act as the primary sales contact for distributor and key end-user accounts.
  • Actively prospect new customers through cold outreach, site visits, referrals, and networking.
  • Identify new applications, industries, and opportunities for Postle hardfacing and welding alloy products.
  • Manage the full sales cycle…prospecting, quoting, closing, and follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records including activities, opportunities, forecasts, and account plans.
  • Coordinate with TSMs for technical evaluations, demos, trials, and customer training.
  • Build and execute territory plans aligned with annual sales objectives.
  • Monitor competitor activity, pricing trends, and market conditions within the territory.
  • Represent Postle Industries at trade shows, distributor events, and industry functions.
Qualifications
  • 2–5 years of sales or business development experience; industrial, welding, distribution, or manufacturing sales strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to prospect, open new accounts, and grow revenue.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Self-directed, organized, and accountable for results.
  • Comfortable working independently in the field with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to learn technical product knowledge through hands-on training and coaching.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM systems required.
  • Ability to travel 50%+ depending on territory.
  • Preferred but not required: welding experience, mechanical background, or technical trade education.
  • Base salary: $65,000–$80,000 plus commission and performance incentives.
  • Clear earnings upside tied directly to territory growth and performance.
