Works under general direction to perform professional level medical or scientific research assignments related to a particular or specialized field of endeavor. UT Southwestern Medical Center is hiring for a Research Associate in Surgical Oncology. The Research Associate will work in support of the Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program (Kim/Huang Lab) and serve as a cornerstone of our program operations. This role combines professional-level scientific research with essential laboratory management.
The successful candidate will oversee daily operations, provide technical support across multiple research tracks and manage the mouse colony. For a candidate who demonstrates strong scientific maturity and independence, there is a clear pathway to transition into leading an independent research project within the program’s portfolio.
- Laboratory management & operations
- Manage laboratory ordering
- Maintain laboratory safety/IACUC protocols
- Equipment maintenance, and general organization to ensure an organized and productive research environment
- Research support and provide technical expertise and hands‑on support for various projects in the lab
- Maintenance of the laboratory mouse colony, including breeding schemes, genotyping, weaning, and tagging
- Recommend and/or initiate new or modified procedures and techniques based upon latest developments in the assigned field or analysis of research data
- Perform computer programming for accumulation and analysis of research data
- Design, construct, repair, or modify electronic and/or mechanical equipment or apparatus used in experiments and research projects
- Instruct medical students, graduate students, residents, or other laboratory personnel of lower grade with respect to techniques, procedures, and equipment utilized in research or experiments
- Assist principal investigator and other professional personnel in writing reports and papers for publication
- Provide working supervision to employees of lower grade engaged in performance of a variety of difficult and complex laboratory work tasks
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Education:
Master’s Degree with major coursework in the field of assignment or Bachelor’s Degree with major coursework in the field of assignment - Experience:
3 years of laboratory experience with a Master’s degree including 2 years at the level of Research Assistant II or equivalent; or 4 years of laboratory experience with a Bachelor’s degree including 2 years at the level of Research Assistant II or equivalent
