Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician

The Ophthalmology team specializes in appointment-based patient care, as well as assisting and preparing for surgeries. Ophthalmology is a fast-paced service with a high caseload, alternating between appointment and surgery days. You may assist with tonometry, corneal stains, Schirmer tear testing, as well as TPRs and chemical ablations.

• Prioritize caseload and patient care and prepare and check charts for appropriate paperwork
• Restrain and assist during examinations
• Obtain vitals and perform ocular testing
• Assist with venipuncture, IV catheter placement and surgical procedures
• Potential for additional training in anesthesia and sedation
• Prepare, call in or create written prescriptions
• Coordinate interdepartmental communication, services, patient transfers and consults

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license required
• Prior veterinary experience required, previous ophthalmology experience desired
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
