Job Description - Advanced Practice Provider, Adult Critical Care Fellowship (904740)
Program OverviewThe Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship is a one‑year postgraduate clinical training program for physician assistants and advanced practice registered nurses who wish to specialize in adult critical care. This comprehensive program includes a mix of didactic and hands‑on learning experiences in various intensive care units, such as the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), Neurocritical Care Unit (NCCU), and Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU).
In addition to these rotations, APP Fellows may also have the chance to participate in specialty rotations such as transplant, infectious disease, palliative care, and nephrology. The program is held at the William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, a nationally ranked academic medical center.
The Critical Care APP Fellowship is accredited with distinction by the Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship Association Madrid (APPFA) in partnership with the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
During the course of the fellowship, the Critical Careేమ are full‑time employees of UT Southwestern Medical Center and receive benefits, including paid time off, continuing education funds, and low‑cost comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
Fellows receive a competitive annual salary of $95,000. The adult critical care fellowship program is scheduled to commence on Monday, October 5, 2026.

Education- A Master’s degree or higher from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program is a prerequisite, and candidates are expected to complete their program by May 29, 2026.
- Nurse Practitioners must ensure that their graduate education aligns with the patient population they will be managing during the fellowship program.
- Current Texas Adult‑Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP-BC or ACNPC-AG) or Physician Assistant license and appropriate NP/PA board certification (TX license must be obtained by August 2026
) - Graduate of an Accredited Nursing, Nurse Practitioner, and/or Physician Assistant program.
- Authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified by the American Heart Association or Red Cross based on UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.
Program admission is open to new graduates or experienced Acute Care Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants that meet the program eligibility requirements.
Job Duties- Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
- Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.
