Overview
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval includes award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.
Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Basic Requirements:
- English Language Proficiency
- In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f) - no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic written and spoken English
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE at the time the program was completed
- OR Individuals attending a master s level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor s degree in Nursing may have the opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program
- Upon achievement of a State license - appointment may be on a temporary basis and later converted to permanent after bridge program completion

- OR Foreign-educated nurses with current full-active-unrestricted registration meet the graduation requirement; foreign degrees may require degree equivalency validation (e.g., ICD)
- Current full-active-unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in the U.S. (State/Territory/Comm or D.C.)
- Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: may be appointed at entry step of the grade on a 120-day temporary appointment while pursuing licensure (extended up to two years case-by-case).
- Preferred Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of current Telemetry or Critical Care Experience;
Management experience of at least 3 years in Telemetry or Critical Care; MSN, CCRN or other national certification

- Nurse I - Level I: ADN/ Diploma in Nursing
- Nurse I - Level II: ADN/Diploma + 1 year experience or BSN with no experience
- Nurse I - Level III: ADN/Diploma + 2 years experience or BSN + 1 year experience or MSN
- Nurse II: BSN + 2 years experience or MSN + 1 year experience or related master s with BSN + 1 year
- Nurse III: MSN + 2 years specialized nursing experience or related master s with BSN + 2 years
- Foreign education programs/degrees not creditable as related degrees

Physical Requirements: Light to moderate lifting and carrying (up to 44 pounds); pulling, pushing, standing/walking 8–12 hours; bending, kneeling, climbing (legs required); visual and color vision requirements; hearing without aid.
Duties- 5C-400 / Central Monitoring Unit (CMU) is a telemetry/step-down unit within the Critical Care Unit (CCU).
- Provides care to critically ill, unstable patients requiring telemetry/step-down care not needing intensive care.
- Telemetry/step-down nurses must have advanced nursing skills and knowledge of specialized electronic equipment for monitoring and treatment of acutely ill patients.
- Performs intensive medical interventions and maintains life-support systems as a step-down nurse.
- The Nurse Manager (RN and NM) is the first-line supervisory authority for 24/7 operation and may cover other Nurse Managers as needed.
- Leader responsible for orientation, training, development, staff evaluation, and acting as educator and role model.
