SummaryThe Team Leader, Nursing provides leadership to front line staff in collaboration with the Clinical Manager or Practice Administrator. The role facilitates communication, oversees orientation of new team members with Clinical Educators, evaluates clinical practice, and focuses on quality and performance improvement. The Team Leader plans operational needs, provides coaching and feedback, administers performance reviews, monitors key metrics, and serves in clinical nursing roles (direct care nurse, charge nurse, etc.).
60% of time is clinical shifts and 40% administrative/leadership.
- Perform all aspects of the Clinical Nurse job description during scheduled bedside shifts.
- People Leadership:
Participate in interview and selection of new team members; administer periodic evaluations; provide performance feedback; maintain staff relations through Evidence Based Leadership and Just Culture; mentor staff; administer disciplinary action when necessary. - Operational Leadership:
Schedule new hires with preceptors; process personnel actions; balance staff schedules; approve PTO and monitor FMLA/STD/LOA; review Omnicell reports; ensure accurate timecards; conduct unit environmental rounds. - Regulatory & Quality Compliance:
Conduct unit environmental rounds; monitor expiration of staff licenses and certifications; protect PHI; adhere to infection prevention initiatives. - Staffing:
Assume Charge Nurse role as needed; manage patient load shift; maintain unit‑specific super users; conduct family rounding and attend leadership meetings. - Miscellaneous:
Maintain knowledge of unit‑specific super users; participate in committees; provide education and facilitate learning for patients and families; collaborate with physicians to develop and implement appropriate plan of care; advocate for patient and staff; continuously inquire about patient condition through ongoing questioning and evaluation.
- At least 3 years clinical experience required.
- Leadership experience preferred.
- BSN required.
- Current license to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas required.
- BLS certification approved by the American Heart Association required.
- PALS/NRP/ACLS department specific requirements.
- Effective April 20, 2020, new employees must obtain PACES certification within 6 months of hire; existing employees must obtain PACES certification upon expiration of their PEARS certification (no later than April 20, 2022). Department specific requirement.
