Summary
The Clinical Nurse Generalist Position will focus extensively on providing guidance to acute care and critical care nurse orientee(s) at the VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS). The Clinical Nurse Generalist will help ensure successful completion of nursing orientation process and allow the nurse orientee(s) to feel prepared to function in their role independently.
DutiesThrough our partnership with the Univ. of Texas Medical Center at Dallas, we have emerged as a major teaching and medical research center. The Clinical Nurse Generalist Position will focus extensively on providing guidance to acute care and critical care nurse orientee(s) at the VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS). The Clinical Nurse Generalist will help ensure successful completion of nursing orientation process and allow the nurse orientee(s) to feel prepared to function in their role independently.
The Clinical Nurse Generalist will help precept, train, assess, and coach the nurse orientee(s) to ensure they are learning the organizational protocols, completing orientation milestones, receiving feedback/guidance, and providing instruction on nursing skills. The Clinical Nurse Generalist will collaborate with the assigned preceptor, unit-based educators (UBE), Project Coordinator, and staff development specialist (SDS).
The Clinical Nurse Generalist provides clinical skills with an emphasis on hands‑on training. The Clinical Nurse Generalist serves as a role model, mentor, educator, and facilitator. The Clinical Nurse Generalist will help create an educational environment which fosters innovation, responsiveness, and accountability. The Clinical Nurse Generalist will be flexible and adaptable to responsibilities that impact the organization to promote Veteran‑centric care.
The Clinical Nurse Generalist serves as the primary clinical resource to the nurse orientee(s) in their assigned clinical unit/department. The Clinical Nurse Generalist will work on the assigned nursing unit in the role with a clinical assignment, as needed up to 20% of their time of each pay period, which equates to 8 hours biweekly. The Clinical Nurse Generalist will provide bi‑weekly feedback, more often if needed, to the Project Coordinator regarding preceptee and preceptor experiences.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 0730‑1600/0800‑1630. May be required to work other shifts, be on call, work weekends and/or holidays as patient care and needs of the service require. Should operational needs dictate, candidates must be willing to work within other units (including community based outpatient clinics, for example) to assist and support continuation of the provision of care/services.
