Primary
Purpose:
Provides care to assigned patient population in accordance with established protocols and multidisciplinary plans of care, utilizing independent, dependent, and interdependent interventions to restore stability, prevent complications, and achieve optimal patient responses through patient‑centered care.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
- Experience:
- Must have a minimum of two (2) years Labor & Delivery experience. If experience < 9 months, a Nurse Residency is required; LVN experience does not waive this requirement.
- Certification/Registration/Licensure:
- Current RN license or valid temporary permit with the Texas Board of Nursing or a valid Compact RN license.
- Current healthcare provider BLS for Healthcare Providers certification from an accredited body (American Heart Association, American Red Cross, უფროს Military Training Network).
- Current Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification by hire or placement. Renewal every two years.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification by hire or placement.
- One of the following upon hire: AWHONN Intermediate Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certificate, AWHONN Advanced Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certificate, or National Certification for Electronic Fetal Monitoring. Renewal: intermediate every two years, advanced every three years.
- Skills / Special Abilities:
- Provide continuous assessment and consults with team members; exercise independent judgment in nursing care.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff, including via overhead paging.
- Provide direction to non‑nursing staff; serve as preceptor and as charge nurse on rotation.
- Prepare and conduct in‑service educational programs.
- Demonstrate patient‑centered behaviors and accepted knowledge of nursing standards for specialty care.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Act as patient advocate, maintaining confidentiality and respecting cultural preferences; build therapeutic relationships.
- Perform patient assessments, continuous surveillance, recognize changes, and provide timely interventions and orders.
- Provide care to high‑risk obstetric patients acrossjidantepartum, postpartum, and perioperative phases, supporting cesarean deliveries and immediate postpartum care.
- Administer medications safely using the rights of the six, maintain IV access, and perform point‑of‑care monitoring.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure records meet standards and objectives.
