Program Coordinator - Simmons Cancer Center - Office of Community Outreach and Engagement

The work schedule is a blend of work in office, community settings, and telecommuting. Occasional evening or weekend hours are required for community engagement activities. Travel reimbursement is available for round trips 20 miles or greater.

WHY UT SOUTHWESTERN? The Simmons Cancer Center Office of Community Outreach and Engagement is hiring a full-time Community Engagement and Policy Initiatives Program Coordinator. The Program Coordinator will play a key role in advancing bidirectional communication between the Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC) and the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) community. This position ensures that cancer science, patient care, and engagement strategies are informed by and responsive to community needs, while also monitoring cancer-related policy developments to guide outreach and engagement decisions.

The coordinator will provide operational and strategic support for advisory boards, task forces, and community engagement initiatives that strengthen partnerships and promote improved cancer outcomes for all communities.

JOB SUMMARY The Program Coordinator will be responsible for the following job duties:

Board & Task Force Support
  • Provide infrastructure and logistical support for quarterly Community Advisory Board (CAB) meetings and three ongoing CAB task forces (Public Awareness, Advocacy, Access to Clinical Trials).
  • Develop meeting agendas, prepare materials, coordinate scheduling, manage invitations, and ensure accurate documentation of discussions and decisions.
  • Track and synthesize community feedback; follow-up on action items for cancer center continuous quality improvement.
Policy Monitoring & Reporting
  • Track and summarize cancer-related policy developments at local, state, and national levels.
  • Prepare concise reports and briefing documents to inform leadership and community partners.
Capacity Building & Education
  • Collaborate with the Office of Education and Training and other internal UTSW departments to plan and execute twice-yearly advocacy-focused workshops and twice-yearly best practices in community engagement sessions for researchers and trainees.
  • Handle logistics such as venue coordination, participant communication, and resource preparation.
Community & Coalition Engagement
  • Actively participate in the statewide cancer coalition or similar collective impact efforts to align efforts and share best practices.
  • Conduct site visits to local community organizations to strengthen relationships and promote cohesion between SCCC and community stakeholders.
Strategic Representation & Advisory Structures
  • Ensure strategic representation of DFW communities on the Advisory Board. Recruit new members as needed to ensure representation of DFW communities.
  • Develop additional boards or committees as needed to support bidirectional communication.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required

  • Education
    Bachelor's Degree In Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Education/Social Science, or related field
  • Experience
    5 years experience in appropriate field or may consider additional years of experience in lieu of education.

Preferred

  • Education
    Bachelor's Degree In public health, social sciences, communications, public policy, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Experience
    2+ years of experience in program coordination, community engagement, coalition building, or health advocacy.
