Position Summary

We are seeking a self-starting, motivated, and driven Development Manager to support and strengthen HRI’s fundraising and engagement efforts across foundations, corporations, individual donors, and volunteers. This role handles day-to-day development operations, supports donor and partner stewardship, supports giving campaigns and events, and develops a pipeline of mission-aligned volunteers to expand HRI’s impact.

This is a proactive “builder” role and is ideal for someone who thrives in a mission-driven environment, is comfortable wearing multiple hats, and is eager to help grow a sustainable fundraising and volunteer program.

The Development Manager will work closely with the Executive Director, Board Members, a contracted grants manager, and others to cultivate engagement, secure gifts, and help grow philanthropic revenue in alignment with HRI’s short and long-term plans.

Annual Revenue Goals for HRI are:

  • Foundation Giving: $550,000+
  • Corporate Giving: $150,000+
  • Major Individual Gifts: $350,000+
  • Events/Campaigns/Other: $50,000–$100,000+

In the first 6 months, the Development Manager will achieve the following:

  • Master HRI’s development systems and/or workflows, including CRM, grants management and volunteer tracking, and implement process improvements as needed
  • Spend at least 30 hours with the legal services team, especially during client meetings to deepen understanding of our work and the clients we serve
  • Assist/support in digital campaign execution for Life & Liberty Month, North Texas Giving Day, etc.
Duties and Responsibilities

Foundation & Corporate Support

  • Collaborate with Executive Director and contracted grants manager to research new foundation and/or corporate funding opportunities
  • Systematically track grant calendars, deadlines, deliverables and workflows in collaboration with contracted grant manager and Executive Director
  • Consistently provide engagement updates, documentation and follow-up materials as needed
  • Work closely with contracted grants manager and Executive Director in drafting, formatting, submitting and documenting grant proposals
  • Work closely with programs team in tracking grant outcomes and reporting in a timely fashion

Individual Giving & Donor Relations

  • Effectively maintain donor records, pipelines and engagement activity in CRM or other systems
  • Support donor retention and stewardship efforts, including:
    • Coordinating meeting follow-ups
    • Sending thank-you notes and personalized touchpoints
    • Preparing donor briefings, as needed
  • Manage recurring giving administration and donor lists

Campaigns, Appeals & Events

  • Support Executive Director’s vision and planning for digital campaigns and small, low-cost/high-return events
  • Collaborate with programs team to gather client stories, case examples and donor-facing materials

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist or lead in managing social media content
  • Support board development efforts (materials, follow-up, delegated support)
  • Other duties that advance fundraising objectives or organizational needs.
Qualifications

Essential

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of non-profit development experience
  • Demonstrated ability to support grant writing, donor engagement, and campaign management
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, having the ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines
