Job Description
The Manufacturing - Technical Writer is responsible for developing clear, accurate, and easy-to-follow assembly instructions for power distribution equipment and related components. This role collaborates with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and safety teams to translate complex technical designs into standardized work instructions that ensure efficient, safe, and consistent production. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical writing skills, a solid understanding of manufacturing and electrical assemblies, and the ability to communicate technical information effectively to a production‑floor audience.
Responsibilities- Develop, write, and maintain assembly instructions, work instructions, and visual aids for power distribution equipment and subassemblies.
- Translate engineering drawings, schematics, BOMs, and specifications into clear, step‑by‑step assembly documentation.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and safety teams to ensure documentation accuracy and usability.
- Incorporate safety warnings, torque values, electrical clearances, and regulatory requirements into assembly instructions.
- Create and update illustrations, photos, diagrams, and callouts to support written instructions.
- Standardize instruction formats, terminology, and document structures across product lines.
- Revise documentation to reflect engineering changes, process improvements, and production feedback.
- Support new product introductions (NPI) by delivering assembly documentation aligned with production schedules.
- Ensure documents comply with internal quality standards and applicable industry regulations (e.g., UL, NEC, ISO, or similar).
- Maintain version control and document change history within the company’s document management system.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2+ years of experience writing assembly instructions, work instructions, or technical documentation in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and bills of materials.
- Strong written communication skills with attention to clarity, consistency, and detail.
- Experience working with production teams and understanding shop‑floor workflows.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and documentation tools (Word, Excel, PDF markup, Adobe, etc.).
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in power distribution equipment, electrical assemblies, switch gear, panel boards, or industrial equipment manufacturing.
- Familiarity with CAD tools (AutoCAD, Solid Works, or similar) for reviewing drawings or capturing visuals.
- Experience creating visual work instructions using photos, diagrams, or illustration software.
- Knowledge of electrical safety standards and manufacturing quality systems.
- Experience with document control systems and revision management.
This position operates within a manufacturing and office environment, with frequent interaction with engineering and production teams. There is occasional time spent on the shop floor to observe assembly processes. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, with start times between 6 am and 8 am for an 8‑hour workday.

Pay And BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.
