Job Description

POSITION: WASTE CHAMPION

Reports to: Plant Manager

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Managing the full Waste Stream of materials
  • Daily Waste Entry
  • Works with key stakeholders to build a continuous improvement environment to support lean site goals and strategy.
  • Facilitates problems solving through lean methodology to eliminate waste by 5% YOY is a must while working with operators and line associates.
  • Promote and facilitate a culture of high engagement.
  • Manage projects to critical timelines and cost in order to meet critical to corporate objectives.
  • Facilities best practice sharing and benchmarking.
  • Identify gaps in waste reporting and collection processes and close the gaps
  • Perform Raw and WIP Cycle Counts
  • Count inventories, report needed adjustments, and determine why counts are off
  • Report waste data to plant management team
  • Work with quality and production leaders to review Root Cause Analysis of Waste Issues
  • Provide Statistical data to teams for review and identify prevention measures to Waste
  • Drive actionable items out of the team to the production floor
  • Develop process improvement plan to reduce waste stream
  • Take part in monthly review with All Waste Champions and PPD leadership
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures of the Company
  • Clerical duties as needed throughout the site
Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Related college degree and/or appropriate technical courses or Associate’s (A.A.) degree
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in related field.
  • Corrugated experience is preferred.
Language Skills
  • Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
Mathematical Skills
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate.
  • Able to apply concepts of algebra and geometry along with basic math (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing).
Reasoning Ability
  • Should have the ability to comprehend and identify waste streams in the plant’s processes.
  • Should be able to recognize and prioritize focus areas for waste reduction.
Technical Skills
  • Ability to gather information and perform root cause analysis and problem solving.
  • Ability to create reports for review by upper management.
  • Ability to lead teams in waste reduction efforts.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Corrugated experience preferred.
Physical Demands
  • The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear.
  • The employee is sometimes required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Performance Measurements
  • Performance measures include, but are not limited to, plant shrink reduction. Maintain close measured waste to shrink variance.
