Summary:
As the Payroll Team Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day payroll operations for our diverse workforce. You ll start by leading a small team, guiding their development and performance, and implementing efficient payroll processes and controls suitable for scale. As we grow, you will play a key role in building the team, fostering collaboration, and driving continuous improvement.
Responsibilities- Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise, mentor, and develop payroll team members, providing training and support.
- Motivate team members, set individual and team goals, and conduct regular performance reviews.
- Train and onboard new payroll staff, developing SOPs and documentation as needed.
- Participate in hiring and onboarding as the team expands.
- Payroll Processing
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll for over 1000 employees across multiple pay cycles.
- Audit payroll data, review calculations, and address discrepancies promptly.
- Partner with HR, Finance, and other departments to ensure data integrity and resolve payroll issues.
- Compliance & Controls
- Remain thoroughly up-to-date on federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
- Maintain documentation, policies, and procedures for payroll operations.
- Ensure internal controls and audit procedures are effective and enforced.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities.
- Assist in system upgrades, integrations, and transitions as the business scales.
- Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare and analyze regular and ad-hoc payroll reports for leadership.
- Support annual audits, and contribute to budgeting and forecasting efforts.
- 3+ years experience in payroll processing, with some supervisory/team lead responsibility.
- Thorough understanding of federal and state payroll laws and best practices.
- Experience with payroll software (e.g., Net Suite, UKG, Paycom, Ceridian, Workday, etc.).
- Strong data management and Excel skills.
- Experience in a high-growth or mid-to-large company preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
- CPP or FPC certification is a plus.
