Equipment Manager - California or Texas H&A Recruiter

Our client is seeking an experienced Equipment Manager to take full ownership of their heavy equipment fleet and bring greater structure, efficiency, and accountability to operations. Candidates can be based in the
Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas
or the Greater Orange County area of California.

This role is responsible for overseeing fleet management, maintenance, dispatch coordination, compliance, and cost control while leading a team of operators, mechanics, and support staff. The Equipment Manager will report directly to executive leadership and play a key role in supporting large-scale projects across multiple states.

This is a full-time leadership role with high visibility and the opportunity to make a significant impact on operations as the company continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and manage the company’s equipment fleet, including tracking inventory, hours, mileage, and life cycle costs.
  • Develop and implement processes for preventive maintenance, repairs, and equipment deployment to job sites.
  • Supervise mechanics, operators, and yard staff while managing relationships with outside vendors.
  • Ensure compliance with warranties, OEM standards, DOT, and OSHA regulations.
  • Partner with dispatch to coordinate equipment and personnel for efficient jobsite support.
  • Monitor fleet performance using telematics, GPS, and reporting tools to track utilization, downtime, and fuel efficiency.
  • Manage budgets, approve invoices, and provide cost-per-hour and trade value analysis to guide buy/rent/retire decisions.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the team while instilling a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Previous experience managing heavy construction equipment fleets.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to build and manage effective teams.
  • Hands-on knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance, utilization, and compliance standards.
  • Experience with fleet management technology, telematics, and reporting tools.
  • Financial acumen with prior responsibility for P&L, budgeting, and cost analysis.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
