Hope Cottage is seeking a mission‑driven, hands‑on Director of Finance & Administration to serve as a strategic and operational leader of the organization’s financial and administrative functions. This role is responsible for stewarding the organization’s financial health, strengthening internal controls, and overseeing core administrative operations including accounting, human resources, facilities, and information technology.

Reporting directly to the CEO and serving as a key liaison to the Board of Directors and Finance Committee, the Director of Finance & Administration plays a critical role in enabling Hope Cottage to deliver on its mission with transparency, sustainability, and operational excellence.

What You’ll Do Financial Leadership & Strategy
  • Lead all financial operations of the organization, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP).
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and dashboards for the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Partner with the CEO and leadership team to develop the annual operating budget and multi‑year financial plans; monitor performance against budget.
  • Serve as primary financial liaison to the Board Treasurer and Finance Committee, providing clear and actionable insights.
  • Support organizational strategy by evaluating financial risks, opportunities, and long‑term sustainability.
Accounting, Compliance & Audit
  • Oversee general accounting, accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts, billing, payroll, and treasury functions.
  • Manage the organization’s Net Suite accounting system and related financial tools (e.g., ).
  • Establish, document, and maintain strong internal controls and financial policies.
  • Coordinate the annual independent audit and ensure timely completion of all required filings, including Form 990, payroll tax returns, and DFPS cost reports.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and donor financial reporting requirements; prior experience with foster care or adoption billing strongly preferred.
Grants & External Reporting
  • Prepare financial components of private and government grant applications.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to grantors, donors, and funding agencies.
  • Partner with development and program teams to align financial reporting with program outcomes.
Human Resources & Administration
  • Serve as the organization’s HR leader, overseeing payroll, benefits administration, and HR policies in compliance with applicable laws.
  • Support staff lifecycle processes in partnership with the CEO and leadership team.
  • Ensure competitive, compliant, and mission‑aligned employee benefits programs.
Operations, Facilities & IT
  • Oversee facilities management, including maintenance, repairs, and vendor relationships.
  • Manage property and casualty insurance coverage to meet organizational and licensure requirements.
  • Oversee information technology systems and vendors; assess software and hardware needs to support organizational efficiency and security.
Leadership & Culture
  • Lead and develop administrative and support staff, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Model Hope Cottage’s values and Code of Honor; maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Support donor engagement activities and organizational events as needed.
  • Bring issues forward proactively, exercising sound judgment and partnership with the CEO.
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive nonprofit financial management experience.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Certifications: CPA preferred but not required.
  • Technical Proficiency: Deep knowledge of nonprofit accounting, GAAP, budgeting, and financial reporting. Strong proficiency with accounting systems (Net Suite preferred).
