Job Summary:
The basic job requirements, duties, and responsibilities are to keep each building neat and clean at all times. These minimum requirements should be a guide to the services required to maintain a building effectively. Staff will perform the necessary work to maintain the optimum level of cleanliness in every building or worksite serviced by Flag Ship.
- Sweeps, vacuums, mops, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors using industrial vacuum cleaners and scrubbing and buffing machines.
- Dusts and washes walls, cleans ceilings and dusts and polishes light fixtures; washes and replaces blinds.
- Moves cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates and equipment to clean areas.
- May remove stains from surfaces such as rugs, drapes, walls, and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions. May also sweep walks, rake leaves, cut grass, remove snow or perform other incidental seasonal tasks.
- Sweeps, vacuums, mops, scrubs and cleans floors using industrial vacuum cleaners and scrubbing machines. Uses ladders as needed, dusts and washes walls, windows, ledges, cleans ceilings, dusts and removes trash; heavy lifting up to 50 lbs may be required.
- Moves boxes, furniture and grates to clean areas; applies and removes protective applications from walls, floors and equipment.
- Carpeted Areas – Empty waste baskets and liners; dust/clean tops of office furniture; vacuum carpeting; spot clean soiled areas; clean glass on lobby doors.
- Lunchroom/Break Areas – Empty waste baskets and liners; wipe/clean tabletops and chairs; wipe/clean vending machines and appliances; clean sink and counter areas; sweep and mop tile floors.
- Restrooms – Empty waste baskets and liners; clean and sanitize toilets, basins, and urinals; sweep and mop floors with disinfectant; spot clean walls, partitions and doors; refill dispensers as needed.
- Non-Carpeted Areas – Empty waste baskets and liners; sweep and spot mop tile floors; damp mop tile floors; dust/clean desks and surfaces.
- Clean overhead vents; dust blinds; polish wood furniture.
- Dust high partitions and ledges; clean interior partition glass.
- Keep janitor s closet neat and orderly; maintain equipment such as vacuums.
- Knowledge of basic janitorial duties is helpful.
- Good listening and verbal communication skills; some positions may require English proficiency.
- Maintain a neat appearance; uniforms may be required at some worksites.
- Attend periodic training and safety meetings; anticipate the needs of clients; be punctual.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- 6 months of experience in commercial facilities and building janitorial work desired.
- Small- to large-office environment; safety glasses for certain tasks; fast-paced work environment.
- Noise level usually moderate; mixed office and shop environments; exposure to dust, odors, oil, fumes, cleaning products and noise.
The physical demands describe essential functions: standing, walking, sitting, handling objects, reaching, climbing stairs, balancing, kneeling, crouching or crawling; ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds; vision requirements; accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act may be provided.
