Job Description

As a Paralegal on Southwest Airlines’ Labor & Employment Team, you’ll be a trusted partner in managing critical legal matters that impact our People and our business. You’ll assist Attorneys in responding to government charges, preparing for labor arbitrations, and coordinating with outside counsel on employment litigation. In this role, you’ll handle everything from drafting and reviewing legal documents to managing case files, conducting research, and tracking project progress.

You’ll also serve as a liaison with law firms, vendors, and internal clients—helping ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely execution. Your work supports Southwest’s commitment to fairness, integrity, and Legendary Customer Service for both Employees and Customers.

Responsibilities
  • Provide general paralegal support, including file management, word processing, coordinating intra‑office and external correspondence, intake of notices, and coordination of follow‑up action
  • Under the supervision of an attorney, review, revise, and draft legal documents and correspondence
  • Facilitate the processing of documents to obtain the required authorized signatures
  • Work on projects and perform legal research on various topics as assigned
  • Gather, save, review, summarize, and organize documents, contracts, and emails in document management system
  • Track and report on the status of assigned projects
  • Serve as a liaison for client contacts, law firms, vendors, and other parties on legal matters
  • Collaborate with Legal Department colleagues on a variety of legal and regulatory issues
  • Perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) software
  • Skilled in organization with attention to detail and ability to accomplish multiple tasks to meet deadlines
  • Skilled in excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to be self‑motivated; work both independently to complete tasks and respond to requests as well as collaborate with others to utilize resources and knowledge of others
  • Strong ability to follow up on pending items, track project progress and stay current on project status and milestones
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion
Education
  • Required:

    High School Diploma or GED
Experience
  • Required:

    Intermediate level experience, fully functioning broad knowledge in related work and/or training
  • Preferred:
    Experience in employment litigation
  • Preferred:
    Experience responding to government charges
Physical Abilities
  • Ability to perform work duties from work station/desk/office area for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
