Litigation Paralegal – Dallas Law Firm – $115–140k – Hybrid schedule

Job Summary:

The Litigation Paralegal will provide comprehensive support to attorneys in all phases of litigation. This includes extensive legal research, document drafting and management, case organization, discovery assistance, and trial preparation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Case Management & Organization:
    • Maintain and organize complex case files, both physical and electronic, ensuring all documents are accurately categorized, indexed, and readily accessible.
    • Manage litigation calendars, track critical deadlines for filings, court appearances, depositions, and meetings.
    • Set up new clients and matters in case management and billing systems.
  • Legal Research & Analysis:
    • Conduct thorough legal research using online databases (e.g., Westlaw, Lexis Nexis) to identify relevant case law, statutes, regulations, and legal precedents.
    • Analyze legal documents, deposition transcripts, and evidence, identifying inconsistencies and key information.
    • Prepare concise legal memoranda and summaries of research findings for attorneys.
  • Document Drafting & Filing:
    • Draft a variety of legal documents, including but not limited to:
      • Initial pleadings (complaints, answers)
      • Motions and supporting documents
      • Discovery requests and responses (interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission)
      • Subpoenas, notices, and affidavits
      • Correspondence to clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
    • Ensure all documents comply with court rules, formatting standards, and local filing procedures.
    • Electronically file pleadings and other documents with state and federal courts.
    • Cite-check and fact-check legal documents for accuracy.
  • Discovery Support:
    • Assist attorneys in all phases of discovery, including document collection, review (often using e-discovery software), and production.
    • Organize and manage voluminous discovery materials and exhibits.
    • Prepare summaries of depositions and other discovery.
  • Trial & Hearing Preparation:
    • Assist with all aspects of trial and hearing preparation, including:
      • Compiling and organizing trial binders (containing exhibit charts, witness information, relevant case law, etc.).
      • Preparing trial exhibits and demonstratives.
      • Coordinating with witnesses and experts (scheduling, subpoenaing, preparing for testimony).
      • Managing trial logistics (transporting exhibits, setting up equipment).
    • Provide real-time support to attorneys in the courtroom, including handling exhibits, taking notes, and managing documents.
  • Client & Witness Communication:
    • Communicate professionally with clients, witnesses, experts, and court personnel to gather information, provide updates, and coordinate schedules.
    • Assist attorneys in client and witness interviews, taking detailed notes.
  • Administrative Support:
    • Maintain attorney time records and assist with the firm's monthly billing process.
    • General office support as needed, including photocopying, scanning, and managing attorney calendars.
    • Handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field.
  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA‑approved program strongly preferred.
  • Experience as a litigation paralegal or legal assistant in a law firm setting.
  • In‑depth knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures, and civil litigation processes.

    Skills:

    Ability to draft clear, concise, and grammatically correct legal documents and to communicate effectively with diverse individuals.
  • Technological Proficiency:
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    • Experience with legal case management software (e.g., Clio, MyCase).
    • Proficiency with e‑discovery platforms and document review software.
    • Familiarity with electronic filing systems and procedures.
