Telecom Central Office Technician

Location: TX (DFW)
Environment: Central Offices & warehouse sites

Overview

TEKsystems is partnering on a large-scale site exit and network decommissioning initiative for a major carrier. We're building a team of experienced Central Office / Telecom Technicians to support site audits, harvesting, decommissioning, pre-wiring, and circuit grooming preparations.
This role is ideal for technicians who have worked around live, traffic-bearing equipment and are comfortable with extensive travel, detailed auditing, and hands-on telecom infrastructure work.

    What You'll Be Doing

    Travel-Based Audit & Decommissioning Work

    Technicians will conduct full point-to-point audits of existing network elements across multiple CO sites.

    Responsibilities include:

    Cable & Equipment Audits
    • Documenting coax cabling, DSX-3 cross-connects, CAT5 cabling
    • Verifying fiber facilities using Fiber Finder test equipment
    • Documenting light levels, active vs. inactive fibers, and connection paths
    • Recording fiber labels and adding missing labels where needed
    • Identifying fiber panel types and associated equipment ports
    • Auditing riser connections (Century Link and non-Century Link space)
    Decommissioning & Harvesting
    • Removing legacy transport and data equipment
    • Working on lifts when required
    • Pre-wiring for circuit groom migrations
    • Supporting moves of live customer circuits from legacy to new systems
    Documentation
    • Completing detailed Excel inventory spreadsheets
    • Recording circuit IDs, notes, light levels, connectivity status (front/back)
    • Following strict guidelines for what to document and where
    Qualifications
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Understanding of CO safety and risk mitigation
    • Experience working around live traffic-bearing equipment
    • Ability to travel extensively and work structured overnight/weeklong schedules
    Compensation & Travel
    • Hotel: Up to $100/day
    • Per Diem: Up to $80/day
    • Mileage: $0.70/mile when personal vehicle is required/rental option

    Job Type & Location
    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dallas, TX.
    Pay and Benefits
    The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $34.00/hr.
    Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
