Data Analyst, IT Business Analyst
The Data Governance Director serves as a central point of contact for function data owners, interfacing with management and staff that have Data Governance responsibilities. The Director works with all segments and functions to draft, adopt, and communicate Data Governance policies, standards, and procedures. Also serves as the main point of contact for all future IT projects that impact master data.
Works closely with the VP of Data Governance and Director of Merchandise Operations to ensure Master Data and the PIM application are functioning in a manner that supports enterprise data governance.
The Data Governance Director plays a critical role in FY16 and FY17 IT projects that drive master data management: PIM enhancement, implementing the Business Glossary, CARs enhancement, Digital Product Readiness project, and other Omni-Channel initiatives.
The DG Director fosters a strong working relationship with IT and collaborates with technology/infrastructure staff to identify data relationships and dependencies to make appropriate decisions of what should/should not live in enterprise master data.
Primary Responsibilities- Facilitates committee meetings to set data governance policies, standards, and rules and communicates to the organization.
- Leads the Data Governance Committee meetings.
- Works with the VP of Data Governance to lay out a roadmap to successfully implement governance around product, supplier, location, customer, etc.
- Drives the current state assessment activities to completion to ensure governance implementation meets milestones.
- Understands governance activities as it relates to future Belk initiatives (i.e. omni-channel) to support the success of those programs.
- Coordinates development and training of Data Governance processes.
- Coordinates organizational change efforts required to establish Data Governance capabilities with the Belk Change team.
- Reviews all add/change request forms that are exceptions. Determines which attributes should be added to master data and which ones can continue to live in silo systems.
- Presents add/changes that require IT work to the Data Governance committee and garners consensus on prioritization of IT work.
- Mediate and resolves conflicts.
- Works with the Data Governance Analyst to create reporting, compile, and prepare enterprise data quality metrics.
- Actively participates in key IT project design sessions (Digital Replatform/Hybris, PIM upgrade, etc).
- Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Enterprise-wide Data Governance and DG Analyst.
- Ensures DG analyst enforces the DG policies and procedures.
- Maintain excellent relationships/communication with business stakeholders, IT teams, business area, Data Stewards, and Committee members.
- Coordinate development and training of Data Governance processes.
- Oversee Data Governance Business Glossary and report on data quality metrics, terms, categories, policies, and rules.
- Support organizational change efforts required to establish Data Governance capabilities.
- Provide a single point of contact for data quality coordination for approved initiatives.
- Work with functional teams to identify, triage, and prioritize data issues and concerns.
- Facilitate issue resolution work sessions with the Data Committee team.
- Gather and analyze information to evaluate overall Data Governance program success.
- Provide business-level support to the data steward community.
- Review all IT functional specs that impact enterprise master data.
- Take ownership of issues through to resolution or escalation, as appropriate.
- Proactively improve the quality of data to increase business value.
- Uphold and champion policies, procedures, and standards.
- Participate in sourcing and selection of new vendors and system applications as needed.
- Work with business teams on application administration activities as needed.
- Identifies and undertakes projects as required. Follows any job-related instructions requested by supervisor or management.
- Education and experience
- 2+ years experience in master data environment preferred.
- 2+ years in supervisory role.
- Functional understanding of retail business processes.
- Working knowledge of relational databases.
- Microsoft suite of applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
- Able to identify, challenge, and consider opportunities outside of conventional thinking and traditional ways of operating to resolve problems or inefficiencies.
- Must have very strong organizational and logic skills.
- Must have strong leadership skills.
- Must possess strong analytical skills.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills in order to meet routinely with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to organize thoughts on complex technical issues into well-conceived plans of action.
