JOB SUMMARY

The Epic Security Technical Specialist, working from our Dallas location is responsible for the strategic design and optimal implementation of Epic Security features, solutions, and enhancements aligned with BSWH strategic initiatives. This role requires a deep understanding of the complexity of the entire Epic Security Model well beyond the Epic Security Certification and be able to perform and direct others in risk-based testing of identity access and security systems.

Responsible for collaborating with various operational leaders, information services, and managed services partners to champion ideation and creative solutions to align with the organization's strategic goals and maximize the utility of Epic Security. The Epic Technical Specialist is also responsible for mentoring junior and experienced analysts, supporting their development in problem-solving, project execution and go-live activities. Lastly, they monitor for issues, respond to help needs and participate in Epic, Information Services, and Information Security processes and represent accordingly.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS OF

THE ROLE
  • CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION - Epic Certification (EPICCERT):
    Must have 2 EPIC Certifications
  • Epic Security Systems Expertise:
    Serve as the primary cross-application expert on Epic for the entire security portfolio - providing guidance for design decisions, including providing input on potential impacts on downstream modules, and performing complex troubleshooting. Unite closely with all Epic application teams to drive holistic Epic Security management.

  • Solution Design:
    Collaborate with operational executive leaders and cross-functional teams to design and implement mature, innovative solutions that meet the organization's needs. This includes ideation, customization, configuration, and integration with other third-party applications.

  • Technical Consulting and Mentorship:
    Assist analysts and portfolio owners with security solution design, scoping calibration, and serve as an expert to validate enhancements and potential projects under the Epic Security Program purview. Foster an environment of continuous learning and professional growth within the team.

  • System Optimization:
    Proactively review technical setup for critical architecture and configuration and provides optimization and improvement opportunities - articulating the required level of effort with the benefits of each potential improvement.

  • Portfolio Health and Integration:
    Continuously evaluate and optimize new Epic modules and features to improve efficiency, usability, and patient outcomes. Create business cases for new features for evaluation by operational leadership. When an Epic-module does not meet current needs, oversee the integration of Epic with new and existing third-party systems to ensure an optimal long‑term approach.

  • Project Leadership and Execution:
    Play an active role in Epic Security Program project planning, execution, and go‑live support, ensuring smooth transitions to staff responsible for maintenance.

  • KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

    Must maintain Epic certifications.

    Able to quickly develop deep Epic application knowledge to build, test, support and train.

    Ability to work well in team environments.

    Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, and email software applications.

    Demonstrates customer‑oriented service excellence principles.

    Self‑motivated leader who can identify, prioritize, and resolve issues and advance personal knowledge.

    Ability to execute complex tasks through organization and details‑driven approach.

    Ability and experience understanding end user workflow and owning the technical components of that workflow.

    Strong project management skills with the ability to drive smaller independent initiatives and assist assigned project managers move projects towards successful completion.
