Mainframe and Unikix Lead Consultant

The Mainframe and Unikix Lead Consultant is responsible for leading and executing the migration of legacy mainframe applications into rehosted or software-equivalent platforms.

This role involves analyzing legacy systems, designing migration strategies, working with Unikix or Micro Focus technologies, and implementing modernized solutions in cloud and Linux environments.

The consultant will collaborate with stakeholders, support technical teams, and ensure seamless transition from mainframe to rehosted systems.

• Lead efforts to migrate mainframe applications to rehosted environments or equivalent software platforms.
• Apply deep knowledge of COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, DB2, IMS, Assembler, PL/1, CLIST, REXX, and Easytrieve to identify effective migration paths.
• Utilize Unikix or Micro Focus tools to implement migration solutions.
• Rehost mainframe workloads onto cloud environments by leveraging cloud technologies and modern architectures.
• Use Linux scripting to build migration utilities, automation, and integration components.
• Implement Dev Ops practices on rehosted systems to enable continuous integration and deployment.

• Analyze legacy code, identify patterns, and interpret business logic to propose modernization solutions.
• Translate business requirements into actionable technical specifications.
• Design and implement migration solutions using modern frameworks, tools, and methodologies.
• Create, automate, and execute test cases and scripts to validate migrated applications.
• Review and troubleshoot system issues and propose long‑term solutions.

• Work closely with clients, business stakeholders, and end users to understand requirements and define migration goals.
• Facilitate requirement gathering sessions and help distinguish between essential and optional needs.
• Communicate effectively with cross‑functional teams and support collaborative execution.

• 6–10 years of relevant experience in mainframe modernization and migration.
• Strong expertise in mainframe technologies: COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, DB2, IMS, Assembler, PL/1, CLIST, REXX, and Easytrieve.
• Hands‑on experience with Unikix or Micro Focus (Clerity) for rehosting applications.
• Experience migrating or modernizing applications in large enterprise environments.
• Hands‑on experience with Linux and scripting for automation and migration workflows.
• Experience implementing Dev Ops practices on modernized or rehosted systems.
• Ability to understand, analyze, and interpret legacy code and coding strategies.
• Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
• Experience collaborating with clients, stakeholders, and technical teams.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• Experience working on cloud-based rehosting or modernization projects.
• In-depth understanding of modern software development practices and tools.
• Exposure to large‑scale enterprise transformation or modernization programs.
