Job Description: The AWS Cloud Engineer is hands‑on and responsible for managing and maintaining DLRdmv’s cloud environments. Specifically, this role collaborates closely with technology and product teams to understand needs and requirements before translating them into action – from design and documentation, to monitoring and support. For existing solutions, the AWS Cloud Engineer monitors environments to identify and implement enhancements or improvements as technologies, standards, and best‑practices evolve.
This role is a key technical authority for cloud architecture and security, and as such, requires staying current on the latest industry technology and standards, and maintaining an intimate familiarity with our obligations for security, data handling, and risk management.
The AWS Cloud Engineer reports to the Director of IT, and may be tasked with special projects as assigned by senior leadership.
Responsibilities- Maintain technical expertise in AWS and related technologies
- Develop, implement, and support secure AWS solutions in accordance with best practices, participating in all aspects of the software development lifecycle
- Monitor the cloud environment for efficient operation, enhancing and improving as needed
- Design and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting strategies to ensure reliability, performance, and rapid incident response
- Identify, analyze, and resolve infrastructure or configuration vulnerabilities
- Troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, fix and document solutions, and implement preventive measures
- Own backup, restoration, and recovery/failover processes
- Conduct regular reviews of cloud environments for monthly / quarterly audit, making recommendations for improvements, and participating in Security Risk Assessments
- Recommend improvements for existing cloud infrastructure, and lead any modernization efforts that may be required
- Demonstrate exceptional problem‑solving skills, with an ability to see and resolve issues before they impact productivity
- Work with peers throughout the organization to define, implement, and document best practices and standards
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, or related field of study, or equivalent in education and work experience
- AWS certification strongly preferred (Solutions Architect, Advanced Networking, Security)
- Demonstrated experience owning and operating production AWS environments, including responsibility for reliability, security, and ongoing improvement
- Experience designing, implementing, and operating AWS VPC architectures, including routing, security controls, and service connectivity
- Hands‑on expertise with core AWS services, including compute, storage, databases, containers, serverless, and integration services (EC2, S3/EBS, RDS/Dynamo
DB, EKS/ECS/ECR, Lambda, Glue) - Experience managing Windows and Linux servers in a production environment
- Command of AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), security controls, and compliance frameworks (CIS, SOC, ISO)
- Strong automation and scripting skills (Terraform, Bash, Power Shell, Python)
- Exceptional problem‑solving and empirical skills with the ability to work collaboratively, communicate clearly, and operate independently in a fast‑paced environment
- Familiarity with Microsoft .NET and modern web application architectures
