The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of payroll processing for the company’s employees, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery. This role requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of payroll regulations, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments in a fast‑paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities- Payroll Processing:
- Manage end-to-end payroll for salaried and hourly employees
- Ensure accurate calculation of wages, overtime, deductions, and benefits.
- Maintain payroll schedules aligned with project timelines and labor agreements.
- Compliance & Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
- Prepare and file payroll-related tax returns and reports.
- Maintain accurate records for audits and internal reviews.
- Oversee certified payroll reporting for government‑funded projects.
- Systems & Process Management:
- Oversee payroll systems and software; implement upgrades or improvements as needed.
- Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard payroll data.
- Collaborate with HR and project managers to ensure accurate employee data and job costing.
- Employee Support:
- Respond to payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Provide guidance on payroll policies and procedures.
- Work closely with the VP of Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and labor cost analysis.
- Support month‑end and year‑end financial close processes related to payroll.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- 5+ years of payroll experience, preferably in the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, tax laws.
- Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
- Experience with multi‑state payroll and certified payroll reporting.
- Familiarity with construction job costing and project‑based payroll.
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) designation is a plus.
Target salary range: $110,000 – $130,000
