The Role and Expectations of HR Manager

This role is critical to the success of our team. Every position on our team is valued and meaningful. We expect the HR Manager to lead with compassion, integrity, and precision—ensuring Hutchinson Construction remains a place where people feel valued, supported, and inspired to grow. This position will oversee all aspects of human resources including talent acquisition, onboarding, benefits administration, compliance, and team member engagement.

The HR Manager will also play a key role in developing processes and programs that support our culture and values.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage all day-to-day HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, benefits, compliance, and employee relations.
  • Partner with leadership to ensure staffing needs align with company growth and project schedules.
  • Manage the full employee lifecycle, from recruiting and onboarding to performance management and offboarding.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommend best practices.
  • Administer employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and 401(k).
  • Develop and maintain HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook updates.
  • Lead employee engagement initiatives to strengthen company culture and retention.
  • Regularly interact with field crews to foster engagement, support communication between job sites and the office, and ensure a consistent company culture across all teams.
  • Plan and coordinate company events, celebrations, and team-building activities to promote connection and recognition across departments and job sites.
  • Assist in training and development programs for field and office personnel.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and employees on HR-related matters.
  • Oversee HR documentation and records retention.
  • Process weekly payroll for field employees.
  • Support and model the company’s purpose and values in every interaction.
Required

Skills and Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in human resources management, preferably within construction or a related industry.
  • Strong understanding of employment law, HR compliance, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HR-related software systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Positive, approachable attitude with a passion for people.
