JOB SUMMARY

Works under minimal supervision to provide professional knowledge and expertise in operation and supervision of one or more sections of Office of Safety & Business Continuity.

Review life safety/fire protection plans; inspect campus facilities per codes/TJC; document and communicate deficiencies. Research/apply applicable codes; advise staff/contractors. Troubleshoot, maintain/repair, or oversee vendors for fire protection systems.

Develop/deliver/supervise fire‑safety training. Meet schedules; complete assigned projects.

Prepare for, respond to, and mitigate fires, floods, and hazmat incidents; use PPE incl. SCBA; obtain/maintain certifications; participate in drills. Essential, on‑call role; respond after hours as needed to sustain operations. Perform admin/program tasks and manage projects.

  • Education
    • Bachelor's Degree in safety related field or
    • Master's Degree in safety related field
  • Experience
    • 3 years directly related safety experience with Bachelor's Degree.
    • No experience with Master's Degree.
    • Professional certification pertinent to specific safety specialty is preferred and may be considered in lieu of degree with six (6) years of directly related safety experience.
    • Pertinent Military experience may be considered for some of the required experience.
JOB DUTIES
  • Identifies potential safety hazards, prepares reports on conditions, and takes action to mitigate identified deficiencies.
  • Performs surveys of laboratories and facilities to ensure adherence to regulation and procedures.
  • Responsible for planning, developing, and conducting training programs related to environmental and other hazards.
  • Designs, develops, implements, and oversees the organization's environmental, health, and safety programs and procedures to safeguard employees and surrounding communities meet regulatory requirements.
  • Investigates employee and environmental accidents and recommends corrective actions.
  • Provide assistance and training for lower level employees.
  • Investigates accidents and incidents, identifying causes and how to prevent their recurrence.
  • Ensures employee health & safety standards are met in all areas of the organization.
  • Coordinated comprehensive program of disposal of hazardous materials and waste.
  • Responds to emergencies and hazardous materials incidents. Participates in emergency drills.
  • This position is designated as essential. Personnel in designated essential positions are expected to report to work as required in the event of an emergency to sustain institutional services or protect assets.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
