Certified Peer Support Specialist — PRN Day Shift

Required

Experience and Education

    High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Licenses and

    Certifications:

    CPS (CERTIFIED PEER SUPPORT) Upon Hire
Job Duties
  • Provides peer support services to patients with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders. Under supervision, acts as a role model to peers, promotes personal recovery and coping skills.
  • Serves as consumer advocate, providing consumer information and peer support for patients in inpatient settings. Assists patients in recovery goal setting.
  • Assists patients in developing personal goals for recovery through individual and group sessions. Supports patients in identifying and creating goals and developing recovery plans with necessary resources.
  • Utilizes tools such as the Wellness Recovery Action Plan to assist patients in creating their own wellness and recovery plans.
  • Assists patients in connecting with support groups in the community.
  • Works with the treatment team to use and promote problem-solving techniques; facilitates discussions regarding concerns, barriers and coping strategies.
  • Assists patients in finding services that support recovery needs, including community resources, government services, employment resources, and housing resources.
  • Communicates appropriately with patients/families, physicians, and staff. Provides status reports to staff and charge nurse. Alerts nurse if issues are unresolved. Applies service principles in daily interactions.
  • Follows established policies and standards of care; maintains accountability for actions; reports errors promptly; adheres to standard precautions and OSHA guidelines.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends in the mental health field; attends continuing education seminars and in-service training when offered.
  • Helps patients develop empowerment skills and combat stigma through self-advocacy.
  • Attends at least 80% of scheduled staff meetings and 100% of mandatory educational sessions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
