Nursing Assistant; Monitor Tech, Monitoring Unit

Position: Nursing Assistant (Monitor Tech, Central Monitoring Unit)
The Nursing Assistant position is learning to perform basic nursing duties under close supervision in a variety of health care settings such as outpatient, inpatient, home or community living care, acute, sub-acute. The Nursing Assistant will care for patients/residents with acute to chronic conditions. The Nursing Assistant for the Central Monitor Unit (CMU) will operate instruments/equipment used to record electrocardiograms for continuous heart monitoring and scanning.

Duties include but are not limited to:

* Read, interpret, and monitor cardiac rhythms and safely and effectively identify Lethal and Non-Lethal Cardiac rhythms for patients requiring telemetry monitoring.

* Perform a 12-Lead EKG's

* Document telemetry information in the appropriate computer system. Verifies alarm parameters are set per monitor defaults or per MD orders.

* Recognize changes in patient cardiac rhythms and report findings to the appropriate staff member and responds appropriately when dysrhythmias occur/ rhythm change: (i.e., Notify Primary RN, Charge Nurse) including emergencies.

* Utilize unit resources; MSDS manual, Unit Resource Manual, Medical Center and Nursing Service policies and computer menus.

* Consistently communicate with customers (e.g., veterans, family members, and the public) in a courteous, tactful, and helpful manner. Communication, both oral and/or written, is generally provided promptly and is responsive to the customer's needs.

* Knowledge of basic nursing care duties as taught in the Basic Nursing Assistant Trainee Program to provide direct patient care and observe patients.

* Take annual Telemetry/EKG Strip exam for competency and continued readiness.

Work Schedule:

Six 12 hour shifts and one 8 Hour shift ( 7:30 PM to 8:00 AM. And 11:30 PM to 8:00 AM )

Pay:
Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Parental Leave:
After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
