Associate’s Degree in Radiologic Sciences or graduate from an AMA‑approved school - Licenses and Certifications
(ARRT) AMER REG OF RAD TECH and MEDICAL RADIOLOGIC TECH licensed by Texas Medical Board (TMB) as a Medical Radiologic Technologist, (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT certification by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required by first day of employment
- Review physician orders for accuracy, diagnosis, and applicability to select diagnostic exam. Communicate with radiologists regarding stat/urgent findings and consult as needed.
- Interview patient (two identifiers) and obtain medical history pertinent to the prescribed exam. Explain procedure, screen for contrast contraindications, observe for adverse reactions, and activate emergency codes if necessary.
- Assist physicians in performing diagnostic procedures, ensuring proper imaging, documentation, and labeling in the electronic health record.
- Complete exam charges and image documentation promptly. Observe radiation safety requirements and ALARA principles, assist patient preparation and transport.
- Perform QC testing and report system or workstation problems to the service engineer, biomed, physicist, and imaging leadership.
- Maintain quality control and radiation safety compliance (daily, monthly, yearly) and archives. Must be able to lift 40–50 lbs.
- Respond to inquiries via calls/emails in a timely and professional manner, using the organizational culture behaviors (PACT, AIDET). Participate in rapid response codes.
- Communicate shift hand‑off regarding workflow issues, equipment, or pending exams with incoming staff.
- Provide orientation and training for new hires and students, ensuring adherence to departmental standards.
- Prioritize exams to ensure smooth workflow, minimize wait times, and address stat requests.
- Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, competency standards, regulatory compliance, infection control, education programs, yearly metrics/department goals, patient satisfaction, and fiscal responsibility.
- Maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA) and secure all workstations and work areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This position is security‑sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, authorizing UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
