Patient Care Technician HUC

Position:
Patient Care Technician - Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) at Baylor Scott & White Health – Baylor University Medical Center. Department:
Surgical Services
.

Shift:
Full‑time days, 12‑hour shifts, rotating weekends
. Sign‑on bonus: $1,000 (eligibility applies).

Job Summary

The Patient Care Technician HUC performs clerical and patient care duties under the direct supervision of the licensed nurse.

Essential Functions of the Role
  • Collect and record patient data; obtain vital signs; monitor blood glucose; perform routine urinary catheter care; collect and transport specimens.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, respond to call lights, and provide sitter duties if assigned.
  • Maintain unit and patient records, files, forms; update and reconcile facility boards, pneumatic tube system, telemetry box.
  • Prepare reports, purchase orders, projects, memos, and letters using computer programs.
  • Greet visitors, answer phones, contact clinical staff, track call light response time, assign devices.
  • Assist as directed by nurse or physician; run errands, pick up supplies, transport patients.
  • Maintain inventory, requisitions, and supplies; perform non‑medical patient care duties as needed.
  • Clean patient bedside units, nursing areas, equipment; distribute supplies to patients.
  • Attend in‑services, unit meetings, conferences.

Qualifications
  • Education:

    High School Diploma/GED Equivalent.
  • Experience:

    Less than 1 year.
  • Certification:
    Basic Life Support (BLS) – BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
