Registered Respiratory Therapist – Night Shift (Full Time)

Job Description: The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for a variety of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures including arterial blood gases, pulmonary function tests, ventilator support, oxygen and aerosol therapy, bronchial hygiene therapy, and airway maintenance. The RRT delivers respiratory assessment and treatment for adults and neonates under indirect supervision of the department’s medical director, while demonstrating knowledge, skills, and the ability to care for patients of all age groups and to be sensitive to diverse needs.

Job Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program
  • Current Basic Life Support certification required
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification required
  • NRP and Pediatric Advanced Life Support – obtain within 1 year of hire
  • Licensed in good standing as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the Texas Medical Board
  • Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care
  • At least 6 months respiratory care experience

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform respiratory therapeutics, including oxygen administration and weaning, aerosol and humidity therapy, IPPB, incentive spirometry, airway maintenance, bronchial hygiene, chest physiotherapy, CPR, and mechanical ventilation.
  • Conduct and report cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures such as arterial blood gas analysis, pulse oximetry, pulmonary function studies, and electrocardiograms.
  • Prepare treatment evaluations, including bedside respiratory assessment, patient interview, and review of the patient’s medical record.
  • Apply critical thinking skills to determine appropriate actions.
  • Interpret CXR, ABG, and PFT results when reviewing patient data.
  • Assemble, inspect, operate, and troubleshoot all cardiopulmonary equipment, including artificial airways, ventilators, oxygen analyzers, delivery devices, and blood gas analyzers.
  • Participate in infection control, safety, and quality assurance tasks.
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper functioning of cardiopulmonary equipment and work areas.
  • Use customer scripting to enhance patient satisfaction.
  • Perform other job duties as required.

Work Schedule: 7 PM–7 AM, 12‑hour shifts, 3 days per week (12 × 3 night schedule).

Methodist Charlton Medical Center is a 314‑bed, full‑service, acute‑care teaching hospital that serves Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Duncanville, and Lancaster in southwestern Dallas County. The facility offers a newly renovated intensive care unit, labor and delivery unit, interventional radiology suite, a Level III Trauma Center, a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and the Dr. Stephen and Marilyn Mansfield Oncology Unit.
