Position Purpose
The Code Enforcement Officer I investigates, inspects, and enforces municipal, land development, and property maintenance codes within city boundaries. Schedules and performs systematic property maintenance inspections to maintain or achieve minimum property standards.
Essential FunctionsMinimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two (2) years of heavy citizen/customer service contact resolving complaints and/or conflicts, service and/or billing disputes.
- A current Code Enforcement Officer Trainee certification (or higher) issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR) will meet the education and experience requirements.
- Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
- Must obtain certification as a Code Enforcement Officer Trainee issued by TDLR within probationary period.
- Availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- PC and report writing skills.
- Ability to testify in court and deal effectively with the public.
- Ability to work under time sensitive situations.
- Ability to work with community stakeholders and develop community partnerships.
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of professionalism.

The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position.
Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed. A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.
