Division Controller

The Division Controller manages the financial resources of Wesley Prep in support of students, families, and employees, in alignment with the mission of the school.

The Division Controller is responsible for the planning, control, accounting, and reporting of income, expenses, and contributed and invested funds. This role oversees all accounting functions, including accounts payable and receivable, cash management, tax compliance, general ledger entries, and payroll.

The Division Controller works closely with members of the Board of Trustees and attends meetings throughout the year to provide full, accurate, and timely financial and management information in support of the Board’s fiduciary responsibilities. The Division Controller attends all finance committee meetings, as well as ad hoc committee meetings related to finance or compensation.

In addition, the Division Controller maintains professional relationships with the school’s banks, attorneys, auditors, investment managers, insurance carriers, contractors, vendors, and the Lovers Lane business office.

The Division Controller is a senior administrator and serves on the School Leadership Team.

• Prepare and review financial/budget statements and investment reports. Make presentations to the Head of School, Board of Trustees, and Finance Committee, as appropriate. Keep the Head and Board informed as to the financial condition of the School.
• Ensure that budgeting and financial reporting are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
• Manage finances, including the budget and record-keeping processes, and inventory control of all organizational resources and purchasing orders.
• Assemble preliminary annual budget from departmental requests and estimate operating expense and income.
• Prepare periodic cash forecasting to determine if current year funding is adequate.
• Develop recommendations to the Finance Committee for annual tuition increases, tuition assistance budget, and salary plan increments in consultation with the Head of School and Division Directors.
• Prepare an annual budget proposal for Finance Committee review and approval.
• Ensure that all expenditures are consistent with the approved budget, or that deviation from the budget is approved in advance by the appropriate authority.
• Prepare and present long-term projections on a periodic basis. Assist with enacting the strategic plan.

• Bachelor’s degree required in Finance or Accounting.
• MBA or other graduate degree in a finance-related field preferred or a certified public accountant license.
• Minimum of five years related professional experience.
• Solid understanding of accounting and finance principles with demonstrated success in financial modeling and analysis.
• Experience with financial planning and analysis functions, including annual budget, capital budgeting, long-term strategic planning and resource allocation processes.
• Effective interpersonal, oral, written skills with a high level of attention to detail.
• Disciplined self-starter with strong creative, problem-solving, and time management skills.
• Adept at using logic and reasoning to work through problems and analyze information.
• A history of establishing, evaluating, and refining programs consistent with the mission of an organization.
• Intermediate to advanced experience with Excel and accounting software systems.
