We are partnering with a highly regarded private investment firm that creates and manages investment funds focused on energy-producing assets. The firm is seeking a Controller to join its Dallas-based leadership team. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Controller will play a central role in overseeing financial operations, strengthening controls, and supporting the continued growth of a long-standing oil and gas investment platform.
This is a senior, visible position with broad responsibility across accounting, finance, and treasury. The Controller will lead a high-performing team, work closely with executive leadership and the board, and serve as a trusted partner in maintaining the firm’s reputation for transparency, rigor, and investor confidence. The role offers meaningful influence, exposure to strategic decision-making, and the opportunity to help modernize systems and processes within a well-established organization.
keyresponsibilities
- oversee all accounting, finance, tax, and treasury operations across multiple entities
- act as the principal accounting leader and primary financial partner to the CEO, board, and external stakeholders
- ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
- lead and coordinate external audits and tax engagements across all entities
- oversee the implementation of a new accounting system and ensure continuity of operations during the transition
- drive continuous improvement in internal controls, systems, and reporting efficiency
- manage oil and gas accounting activities including revenue, LOE, CAPEX, DD&A, and joint interest billing
- oversee fund-level accounting, investor distributions, and capital accounting processes
- manage treasury operations including cash management, disbursements, and approval workflows
- lead, mentor, and develop a lean but experienced accounting team while coordinating external resources as needed
- bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA required
- 15+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including significant oil and gas exposure
- deep technical expertise across revenue, JIB, LOE, CAPEX, DD&A, and partnership accounting
- proven experience managing audits, tax processes, and complex multi-entity structures
- strong treasury, cash management, and control-oriented mindset
- experience leading or supporting an accounting system or ERP conversion
- confident communicator with the ability to operate effectively at the executive and board level
