OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Contract Controller to lead the accounting function for a rapidly growing, billion-dollar privately owned enterprise. This role reports directly to the CEO and will serve as the senior finance leader responsible for day-to‑day accounting operations, financial integrity, and scalable controls during a period of continued growth and transformation.
This is a highly visible leadership role with a clear runway to CFO for the right individual. The ideal candidate comes from an industry/operator background, has led accounting teams in complex environments, and is a subject matter expert in Workday Financials.
Key Responsibilities Accounting Leadership & Operations- Own all core accounting functions including general ledger, month-end close, financial reporting, revenue recognition, and balance sheet integrity
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 4 accounting professionals
, fostering accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement - Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and reporting processes
- Establish, maintain, and enhance internal controls, policies, and procedures to support scale and risk management
- Partner with external auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners as needed
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements
- Act as the internal Workday Financials subject matter expert
, owning system configuration, optimization, and reporting - Partner closely with leadership on Workday enhancements, process automation, and future‑state design
- Translate business needs into scalable Workday financial workflows and controls
- Serve as a trusted financial partner to the CEO
, providing insight, analysis, and recommendations to support strategic decision‑making - Prepare executive-level financial reporting, dashboards, and ad‑hoc analysis
- Support long‑term financial planning, capital strategy, and operational scaling initiatives
- Play a key role in building a best‑in‑class finance function designed for future growth
- Take on increasing strategic and leadership responsibilities over time, with a defined path toward CFO
- 10–15+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
- Prior experience in a complex, asset‑intensive or operationally driven industry strongly preferred
- Proven experience leading accounting teams and owning end‑to‑end accounting operations
- Deep, hands‑on expertise with Workday Financials (GL, reporting, close, and controls)
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting best practices
- Confident, hands‑on leader comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment
- Ability to balance execution with strategic thinking
- Executive presence and credibility to partner directly with the CEO and senior leadership
