The Controller holds a leadership role in the Organization and is responsible for overseeing the dealership’s accounting operations, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting, maintaining compliance with internal controls, international requirements, and applicable laws/regulations.
This person will manage the accounting team, work closely with dealership leadership and help drive financial performance through budgeting, analysis, forecasting, and profit improvement.
Core duties will include:
- Oversee full accounting cycle: accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, inventory, payroll.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow) in compliance with GAAP and International reporting standards.
- Reconcile all balance sheet accounts including manufacturer statements, floor plan accounts, vendor and parts reconciliations, etc.
- Work with the CFO to forecast and manage budgets, participate in financial planning, compare actual results to budget; analyze variances and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain and enforce internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure accuracy, and prevent fraud.
- Review, develop, and improve accounting processes, procedures and systems (which include optimizing software capabilities in Procede, Madden Co, I-Track).
- Work closely with the CFO and others in dealership operations (sales, service, parts, body) to provide financial insights, support decision-making, pricing, cost control, and profit improvement.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, federal regulations, International reporting and tax laws.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of HD Truck Dealership accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of dealership operations: new and used truck sales, parts and service, finance & insurance, International floor plan financing, etc.
- Proficiency in dealership management systems / DMS (Procede preferred)
- Excellent Excel skills, financial modeling, analysis of variances, forecasting.
- Strong leadership / management skills: ability to mentor, manage priorities; good communication skills; good problem‑solving and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail, integrity, ability to work under deadlines, multi-tasking.
- Experience with multiple dealership locations, preferred.
- Familiarity with tax issues specific to HD truck dealerships (sales tax, FET, etc.).
- Knowledge of fixed assets, depreciation
- Experience implementing process improvements or automation.
- Timely monthly close and accurate financial statements delivered on or before deadline.
- Budget vs actual variances minimized; cost control.
- Inventory turns (for parts) and parts cost metrics.
- Floor plan interest and financing costs managed efficiently.
- Accounts receivable aging, collections.
- DMS reports consistent and reliable.
- Audit findings minimal; clean audits.
