Senior Director & Actuary, Reinsurance

The Senior Director & Actuary, Reinsurance will have a multifaceted leadership role. The Senior Director will lead a team of two direct reports and a total team of five. Responsibilities include ongoing GAAP and Statutory reinsurance reporting and administration on Modco and YRT reinsurance treaties, risk retention management, and data management covering reinsurance settlements across multiple life insurance carriers and reinsurers.

The Sr. Director & Actuary will also be directly involved in leading reinsurance pricing and structuring of new Modco and YRT reinsurance and/or retrocession transactions. These transactions will cover new and proprietary life insurance products, including universal life, equity‑indexed universal life, variable universal life and other product types. The Sr. Director & Actuary will deliver timely and accurate quarterly financial close processes, monitor and report on retained and ceded risk exposures, deliver innovative solutions to automate reinsurance administration and reporting processes, and support new business pricing, structuring and product development.

Leadership and Team Management
  • Lead a team of actuarial professionals and non‑actuary data management and financial analyst specialists to execute tasks that support reinsurance and new business strategy.
  • Develop and execute a people development plan, including coaching and mentoring, in alignment with the company's mission, vision, and values.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop talent as needed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and subject matter experts across functional areas to ensure seamless execution.
Stakeholder/Partner Engagement
  • Build and maintain relationships with product development and reinsurance team members and other key influencers internally and externally.
  • Work closely with product development team to support product development and reinsurance pricing.
  • Establish and strengthen relationships with finance team to deliver reinsurance reporting details for integration into GAAP and STAT reporting.
  • Work with internal teams and external carriers to deliver pricing and related assumptions on a timely basis.
  • Draft and present pricing memoranda covering key risks, mitigates and assumptions covering new transactions including expected profitability metrics.
  • Recommend amendments to reinsurance treaties as necessary corresponding to new business, in‑force management and/or retrocession treaties.
Reinsurance Reporting and Administration
  • Lead daily operations.
  • Supervise team members in the development of process improvements that drive timely and accurate reporting and provide insight into performance results.
  • Have an opinion on the quality and reasonableness of carrier settlement reporting and identify areas requiring further investigation as part of regular financial close processes.
  • Deliver quarterly experience reporting and analysis.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, actuarial science, finance, or a related field.
  • Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries (FSA) strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of ten years actuarial experience.
  • Experience with GAAP and Statutory reporting on Modco and YRT treaties.
  • Experience with actuarial modeling and pricing software (preferably MG‑ALFA).
  • Expertise in life insurance and annuity products, especially universal life (Fixed, Indexed, and Variable).
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills.
  • Expertise with SQL Server relational database management and Python general‑purpose programming language is a plus.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and motivate teams to achieve performance goals.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects and meet deadlines.
