Overview- Execute protection and control (P&C) testing and commissioning for utility systems
- Troubleshoot, repair, and modify substation and generation station protection schemes
- Support on-site field work at customer generation and substation facilities

The Protection and Controls Technician supports critical utility protection systems by performing testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and modification of protection and control equipment and schemes. Work is performed on-site at customer generation and substation facilities across the Dallas–Fort Worth area. A strong utilities background is required.
Key responsibilities- Perform functional testing and commissioning of utility protection and control systems, including complex substation and generating station applications
- Troubleshoot protection system misoperations, wiring issues, settings concerns, and equipment faults
- Modify protection and control systems as needed to support field conditions, upgrades, and corrective actions
- Support site-based execution, including coordination with customer stakeholders and adherence to site safety requirements
- Document test results, as-found and as-left conditions, and commissioning records in accordance with established procedures
- Maintain strong compliance with utility standards, commissioning practices, and safe work protocols
- Demonstrated experience in utility protection and control work within substations and/or generation environments
- Hands-on background in testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting protection systems
- Ability to work independently in the field with strong attention to detail and documentation
- Experience with complex protection schemes and station configurations
- Familiarity with relay testing practices, commissioning documentation, and field modifications
- Strong communication skills for on-site coordination and issue resolution
- Field-based role performed at customer substation and generation facilities in the DFW area
- Must be able to meet site access requirements and follow all safety rules and procedures
