IQ’s continued growth trajectory and expansion throughout the region have created a need for an experienced technical leader who can help deliver the customer-centric approach the company was founded on. Reporting to our Executive Vice President, the Vice President of Engineering will be responsible for leading the development and execution of building retrofit and facility renovation projects. These projects primarily focus on upgrading existing buildings for public clients in Texas.
Our ideal candidate will be an Engineer with a great work ethic, high ethical standard and a willingness to learn. This candidate should have extensive experience in delivering large, complex projects involving existing building systems, including mechanical, electrical, and controls design. Experience evaluating aging facilities, identifying performance gaps, and developing practical, cost-effective retrofit solutions is essential.

IQ offers technical solutions in key vertical markets including municipalities, K-12 Schools, Colleges and Universities, State and local Government, Industrial and Commercial. These are large, sophisticated construction projects that require a complex development process and organized collaborative design strategies focused on upgrading and modernizing existing facilities. Therefore, we are looking for a seasoned engineer with a consistent track record of success leading and driving high-level solutions for occupied, operating buildings.
This role will include at least 50% travel to project sites across TX with no weekend stays.
VP of Engineering Responsibilities
- Communicate with architects, engineers, and other construction specialists during the design build construction process
- Perform and/or supervise ASHRAE Level I and II, and III energy audits and retro-commissioning of existing buildings to maximize energy savings opportunities
- Coordinate visits to customer project sites to investigate existing mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing systems and document energy performance information, including utility data and facility infrastructure drawings.
- Identify opportunities for conservation or efficiency, prepare energy savings calculations, and perform engineering assessment including baseline profiles, end-use and retrofit analysis.
- Analyze and prepare conceptual and detailed engineering design and bid documents, cost estimates, drawings, and specifications for energy efficient building technology and system measures.
- Provide engineering guidance throughout development, construction, project commissioning, and operations, including proposals, technical reports, cost estimates, and presentations.
- Compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, codes.
- Ensure successful project implementation that meets or exceeds company objectives, financial parameters, and technical needs required to deliver customer energy cost savings.
- Lead visits to customer project sites to investigate existing mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing systems and document energy performance, including utility data and facility information.
- Audit facility systems to include visual inspection and documentation, performance measurements with field instruments and data logging equipment, retrieval of information from client control, SCADA and metering systems, identification and retrieval of relevant drawings, performance and maintenance logs, service and utility contracts.
- Lead engineering development activities in support of construction, operations, and maintenance of customer site projects as required by energy savings performance contracts.
- Develop and prepare accurate, accessible, and persuasive proposal documents and supporting appendices in compliance with contract requirements.
- Prepares regular reports to communicate the status of the project.
- Work with operations team to find out and implement continuous improvement initiatives through various projects.
- Participate in internal, external customer/contractor meetings and resolves project issues. Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends, recommending actions.
- Monitor energy consumption and maintain accurate records to carry out energy data analysis and identify improvement opportunities.
- Establish engineering KPIs, benchmark against best in class to validate performance and improvements in engineering practices.
