APTIM, a global leader in environmental consulting and engineering, is excited to announce an immediate opening for a Senior Coastal Engineer in our vibrant Boca Raton, Florida office. As a key member of our Resilient Solutions Team, you'll work on cutting‑edge projects that protect and enhance our coastlines. Our multidisciplinary team specialized in beach nourishment, shoreline protection, coastal resiliency, and living shoreline solutions.

At APTIM, you'll collaborate with talented engineers, biologists, geologists, surveyors, and CAD/GIS specialists to tackle a wide range of environmental and coastal challenges. We're looking for a dynamic senior coastal engineer with expertise in beach renourishment, inlet management, coastal structures, living shorelines, and coastal resiliency. In this role, you'll lead technical design services, drive business development, and mentor our talented coastal engineering staff.

Key Responsibilities /Accountabilities
  • The candidate selected will report to the Director of Civil and Coastal Engineering and have the opportunity to manage a diverse coastal engineering team and challenging restoration projects in Florida and along the US Gulf and East Coast
  • Strong quantitative skillsets to support coastal/waterfront projects
  • Lead project teams in conducting the design process for engineering projects from feasibility studies to detailed final designs
  • Independently conduct engineering analyses and apply coastal engineering tools for the design and formulation of resilient coastal protection projects
  • Perform project management activities in a lead role being responsible for scope, budget and schedule working in close coordination with project team, sub‑consultants and client
  • Prepare standard contract documents, such as technical specifications, engineering reports, regulatory applications and other technical documents
  • Participate in business development and marketing activities and write proposals targeting various coastal engineering opportunities in the region
  • Contributing to and providing presentations for conferences and technical organizations
  • Coordinate work with other coastal engineers and professionals within and outside own discipline and with support services staff
  • Conduct field work including site inspections, surveys, and construction observations
  • Collaborate on building innovative tools, technology, and products
  • Interpret contract documents and perform contract administration.
  • Manage individual tasks and small projects while also working collaboratively as part of a team for larger or multi‑disciplinary projects
  • Independently manage multiple project schedules and deliverables
  • Grow and lead existing and new client relationships
Representative Projects
  • Small- and large‑scale beach renourishment projects utilize both dredge and truck haul methods
  • Coastal and marine structures such as jetties, groins, bulkheads, seawalls, revetments, docks, boat ramps, breakwaters, and piers
  • Living shoreline design and ecosystem restoration
  • Adaptation plans, vulnerability assessments, and resiliency strategies
Basic Qualifications
  • 7+ years of coastal engineering experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Coastal Engineering required
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Florida or the ability to be licensed within 90 days of hire
  • In depth understanding of the coastal and marine environment in Florida
  • Working knowledge of coastal numerical modeling software preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse data sets (preferred candidate will have some experience in any of the following: CAD, GIS, Matlab coding)
  • Demonstrated technical and analytical skills in designing projects
  • Demonstrated environmental permitting experience in any state (FL preferred)
